Just watched "The Wrestler" and how they didn't just hand him the Academy Award for Best Actor is beyond me.
Guy was nothing short of spectacular

It's a shame most people won't see it because Michael Bay didn't produce it.

I like Mickey Rourke and enjoy his episodes outside of Hollywood as well. You get what you see with him.

Agreed. Performance was pure gold.
I do like how the previews out for the dvd right now say something like "The film that had crowds standing on their feet" as they show wrestling fans going crazy as Rourke is walking to the ring.
It kinda gives a vibe that it's a feel good movie. Um, no. Fantastically depressing.

Remember the HUGE dood selling Rourke stuff in the locker room? Did you hear that he just went completely bonkers, ran from cops, rammed cars etc etc....for actually having massive amts of roids (dealing).
Talk about great casting!

It was a great performance, not sure if it deserved the Best Actor though.
I didn't see "Milk" w/ Sean Penn, but he's an excellent actor himself. He also won Best Actor back in 2004 for "Mystic River".

its a buy film, and i burn everything, As I mentioned in a different thread, Penn did not deserve the award and he even knew it. Rourke needs to prove himself and try again but I really dont see it happening...

Did not know Rourke was 56? Damn.
Ms. Tomei looks great at 44. She gets topless in the movie

i just rented the Wrestler the other day from the redbox at the McD's by me. It was alright, i'm not a wrestling fan, but Rourke did do a great job. Hell, i looked him up on Imdb after i watched it and he has a shitload of movies in the works, plus i had no idea he was almost 57, i thought 50-51 tops. I guess i just remember that youthful look from Diner and 9-1/2 weeks.
The Wrestler was good for being a low budget movie, and Marisa Tomei was smoking hot, damn she has some nice little perky for an over 40 actress, nice nips, and her ass looked good too.
I rented that Milk Movie also when it came out, and i could see why Penn got it, that movie was based on true events and Penn seemed to really get in character, plus it had a bigger budget, and he had a lot of dialogue.
Mickey on the other hand just had to wrestle have one emotional scene with his daughter , and not a whole lot of dialogue.

He carried the movie by himself. That's hard to do.
Tom Hanks pulled it off in Castaway.
Rourke was a boxer at one point so he knows how to train.

He was having heart problems during the match so I am going to assume he had another heart attack after the finishing move.
Bottom line is Rourke was robbed.

oh i forgot to add, i thought he did a good job in the 2 grocery store scenes , the one where he started working behind the counter and when he got noticed and went off.
I also found it kinda amusing that the comedian Todd Barry was his boss at the grocery store, that dude has a killer dry deadpan delivery. And that Judah Friedlander(?) comedian, most people would probably recognize him from 30 Rock as Frank, the dude with the glasses and the trucker hats with all the crazy sayings. He was one of the wrestling promoters in the movie also.

I loved when he used sweet child o' mine to enter the ring in his final match, asked Axl Rose personally to use that, and got a yes, apparently they are good friends.

Loved loved LOVED this movie. Such an amazing character study and Rourke was absolutely believable in this role. I was sad that he didn't win, too. I didn't see Milk but one only needs to watch Fast Times to get the scope of Sean Penn's acting ability with character roles.

great movie. And I only like one movie every three years or so. Realistic and depressing. No problem with the ending here. He's going with what he knows: wrestling no matter what happens. It is sad, but makes sense.
Also great soundtrack. How about that "Animal Magnetism" towards the end when MT is dancing on the pole.
btw, Gran Torrino had a great ending, saved the whole movie and made it sensible.
