Scratch offs are the crack cocaine for a lottery player, people blow their whole paychecks on them. I think majority of people that play them are highly uneducated and do not understand anything about probabilty and odds of winning.

As for scratchers/scratch-offs, all it takes is a quick read over your odds of winning anything to seriously deter you from considering the damn things.

I remember seeing that scratch offs only pay back around 75%. 25% house advantage, who would play a game where you lose .25 for every dollar bet? Most people you see at convenience stores will buy $20 in tickets, scratch them all off and win $10. Then they buy $10 more and keep going until they are at zero, but it's so fun according to all the commercials!
