What are you guys a bunch of Communists? Who cares about the money. It's just a number. It's market value. You sound like a bunch of grannies whining when gas goes up 10 cents a gallon. Ryan got $35 million guaranteed last year and I heard the same whining. Get over it. Just because your own life sucks doesn't mean you should be backbiting when someone else hits the lottery. Be happy for the guy.

Slacker you are a moron, no one is criticizing Stafford for ACCEPTING the 78 million, hell if they offered me 2 billion to be QB for the Lions I'd do it, we are all questioning the shitbag Lions intelligence in OFFERING that much, this kid is a questionable rookie at best when you lock in 78 million with a questionable rookie over 6 years if he doesn't pan out you sink your team for the next half decade, granted the Lions had the worst season in NFL history last year so it is impossible to sink any lower

The Lions need a DEFENSE (especially rush defense) 10x more than offense, this team gives up TDs on like 80% of opp drive, they could have Peyton Manning throwing for them and it wouldn't matter, this team needed to buy some defensive talent with all that money.

Lions got Stafford very cheap considering that he will win the Supebowl for Lions in 3 years. Kid is phenomenal.

It's market value. The Lions picked the best player to help them improve over the next 5-10 years. Yes, they need help on defense, but they still have lots of good picks to get those players. #20 & #33 overall are very good spots to fill those needs. Franchise QB is tougher to get down the draft board. Detroit is naming Stafford as their franchise guy and paid him market value. It's probably the right move as long as Stafford isn't a bust. People calling Stafford a bust already simply have no clue.

Lions had to take a QB for few reasons but it was no secret who they should have taken(Andre or Jason Smith). But, a team in their position can not take a OL for the number 1 pick. They have to put Asses in their seats.

The O-line is actually one of the few areas of this team that isn't really that bad. I made the same mistake, thinking that the O-line must suck to go 0-16, but it isn't really the case if one wants to do a little research.

But QB is a sore spot. Culpepper is simply a rental, on a 1 year deal. Stanton is a bust. Henson, he's still in the league?! So, Detroit is basically saying they're not going with Culpepper long term, and you can't really blame them. Even if Culpepper lights it up this year, then they're stuck with the task of giving him a big contract, probably. Might as well go with young talent than rebranding a retread. The Lions are rebuilding, after all. Culpepper will only have a couple years left by the time Detroit can actually be taken seriously.

Stafford is better than Eli Manning or Vick when they were drafted. Manning won a Superbowl and Vick took his team to the NFC championship game so with a revamp of the defense I can see the Lions being competitive in 3 years because the offense is pretty good except the QB they lack now.

Exactly. Stafford should be just getting into his groove as the defense gets to where they need to be.

As a Packers fan, I'm getting nervous. Unless Stafford is a bust, the Lions will end up being pretty strong as long as the coaching/management doesn't screw this up. Still a long way to go, they've gotta hit pretty good on the rest of this draft.
