    Selling stuff on ebay?
I am looking to sell some stuff to raise some cash for some necessary medications and such and was wondering if anyone had any experience selling stuff on ebay before...

I have a laptop to sell, digital video camera, some xbox games, probably a TV as well.

Do you even get much for these items or should I explore another option?

    thanks

P.S. pawn shops around here don't even buy electronics due to unemployment rate being so high... (stockpile obviously)

My parents moved in with me so they would be able to ship some things. (what a moral boost for me!)

As far as obama... I get a 250.00 stimulus for the year on my disability check for May! hey that's something right?

As far as cheaper meds... I take 14 total and only 8 have generics... so the copay on the rest of them is anywhere from 30-70 a bottle... I cannot get on medicaid since I am still covered by my old employers health plan.

the ebay thing is just trying to get myself some money where if something else comes up... which in all liklihood probably will lol.

Put your stuff up on Craigslist. Forget feeBay for selling, it's too expensive.

I had no ideas the fees or anything... Anyone ever sold on craigslist then?

I was hoping with any luck a bidding war would occur...

P.S. Sorry if any of this is too depressing just pm me and I will have dave or a mod remove this.

I would not sell your expensive stuff on Ebay. I have an Ebay store that sells movies and games, and I sell only cheap stuff like that for a reason. There are too many people out there that will try to rip you off by saying that items are defective, or even that they didn't receive it. You also lose a lot of overhead with the Ebay and Paypal fees. If you don't use Paypal, then you have to make sure that the check or money order clears, or is even valid.

Your best bet would be to name your price for the items and post them in a Sunday paper's classified section, or have a yard sale. That way you don't have to worry about shipping, and people can pay you cash for the items.

Digital Video Camera - Sony DCR-SR45 30 gb 40x optical zoom ... extended battery and case.. about 15 hours of use.

Laptop is an IBM thinkpad - 2 years old... needs a new power adapter... 22 gig hd.. wireless built in etc.

As for the yard sale idea... I wish I could but I don't have that much to sell and I really can't move around much so I was looking for something that requires minimal effort.

Thanks for the great info on ebay... it sounds like it is not worth my time and not worth the price they would charge and it is EXTREMELY risky.

                      X,

I have extensive experience selling items on both ebay and craigslist, mostly event tickets but some electronics and other items. Most of what everyone has said here is correct, but I have a few things to add. Ebay fees are kinda a rip off:

Listing fees - start at .15 and go up as you add features to the listing or raise the starting price.
                      Final value fees - 2.19 on the first $25 and 3.5% of the rest up to $1k (so for a $200 item 2.19 + (.035 X 175) = 8.31)
Paypal fee - I think it is 4% but either way it is the best way to sell on craigslist so it is a wash.

Ebay is great for selling items where the market is thin and you want to get whatever price you can for them. If you set the price for certain items on craigslist they simply wont generate the interest needed to sell. I tell people this about ebay, you may not get as much as you think the item is worth, it is great for getting SOMETHING for the crap you have sitting around the house. As for shipping, just offer everything up with free shipping on Ebay, they have new buyer friendly rules that incentivize this and generally buyers are smart enough to bid it into the price (i.e. your item w/ free shipping sells for 200, same item w/ 15 shipping sells for 185).

Craigslist on the other hand is good for selling items that you will only accept a certain price. Just list it on there and either sell for your price or dont, simple as that. But list for 10% higher than you want b/c people will dicker w/ you. I like to arrange payment via paypal, you (the seller) sends a payment request, the buyer pays, you send the item. This protects you as a seller against a ********** (and the buyer against non-delivery). I never list my # on clist but if people email me interested in the item I included my # in the response.

Always always always send items sold through both services using delivery confirm or signature confirm...

Hope this helped. Good luck X.
