They've doubled the price of tickets and doubled the odds AGAINST hitting the jackpot....that 2x2=4x the size of previous jackpots....back when they were a dollar and had less balls (before October) 500 mil was only going to occur once every few years bc the odds were 1 in 175 mil and tickets were a buck...so the avg jackpot should be 175 mil....but now the odds are 1 in 292 mil AND the ticket costs $2 bucks so the AVERAGE jackpot should be 584 mil...back in the pre-October days 175 mil jackpot (average size) wouldnt even get mentioned now a below average jackpot gets every sucker with 50 bucks to burn to buy 25 slips of worthless paper for 50 bucks to increase their odds all the way to 1 in 12 million....a 500 mil jackpot pre-October would be the equivalent of a 1.8 billion dollar jackpot under the new rules and double ticket prices....this is actually a below average jackpot but since the odds are so astronomical ppl are racing to buy their tickets

I am under the impression that this is true with regards to Powerball/Mega Millions....there is a huge incentive to sell lottery tickets bc EVENTUALLY someone is going to at least hit a million (or 2 mil if they powerplay) especially if you own multiple stores and you get 10% of that....of course if they hit the powerball 10% of which you would shut the gas station down and it would be like u hit the lottery yourself...also given that like 300 mil tickets are sold per week (and the whole population of the US is 300 mil and those under 18 cant even play the lottery) it would be ridiculous to not offer lottery sales and decline that traffic that will hopefully fillup their tank and buy some shit
