You are the GM of an expansion franchise
for the newest Major League Baseball Team....and they decided to kick start your team, but allowing you to draft any player off of any team. Money is not an object and you will retain the rights to this player for the next 6 years.

    who do you take?

I was thinking albert.... but he will be 30 next year, so he might not be worth as much in his last 2 years of his contract...

Hanley and Grady are also possiblities... no way would I take a pitcher

Hanley Ramirez. They have the best record in MLB, and I can't name 5 guys in their starting lineup.

I would Go with A-Rod still for a few different reasons. I realize he is getting older but he will also be breaking records which will make your team relevant. You aren't going to win many games those first few years anyway and you need someone to put butts in the seats.

Arod does that.....he has star power. Hanley is going to be great and a superstar but he doesn't have the attraction by the fans like Arod does. Arod is polarizing, you either love him or love to hate him...either way you want to watch.....

Matt Wieters. Despite his agent being the antichrist of baseball, you can have him for those six years cheaper than anyone else named here I believe, and I'd make him catch 160 games a year so he was all but done when his six years on my team were done.

I would say Chase Utley because he is a hard working great ballplayer. Also a homer pick for me. Only problem is he is on the wrong side of 30. For these purposes I would have to chose someone else that plays the same position, Ian Kinsler.

I thought about Weiters orginally Willie... because if he pans out, he gives you super offense at a position that most teams have very little offensive..... that is a real premium, that is another reason why I like Hanley.

but Weiters has not proven anything yet, so the risk is huge..... In this question I was kinda supposing that the$ was not a factor...like let's say that MLB is picking up the check on this one..

Amby? Arod? are you serious, if you are building a team around someone you know that it is gonna take a few years to get some pieces to make a run for a title, why would you pick a guy that is gonna be half of who he was 4 years ago and maybe already retired, when your team finally has a chance for a pennent? He would also have no trade value come year 4, 5 or 6...

I wouldn't want a pitcher either, becuase my offense is gonna be anemic for the first year or two at least with my expansion team. So i'd have an "ace" with a 2.75 era and a 12-10 record...

I think Braun, Wright, Votto, Cabrera, sizemore, even Quentin, are good choices....

suprised no one said, Ryan Howard... I wouldn't take him but I thought a few would

Archie by the time that Arod is old and my team is ready to compete for a title I am not going to need Arod anymore. You will have the fan base....Arod makes your team interesting immediately. I am looking at this in a business sense and what is going to make your team worth while to watch right away.
