One of my plays today is not system-based; it is based strictly on, hmmm, that sounds about right. So I figger let's see what the fuss is all about and post it on a public forum.

Now am I supposed to post an explanation? I seldom bet chalk but there is a kind of chalk betting I have had success with in MLB over the years. It involves dominant pitchers. I made very good money betting on Maddux during his Cy Young years despite the fact he was usually -250 or something. Similar effect with Randy Johnson and Pedro at times. Always worth keeping an eye on if you could get them in the low -200's. It is something I have always done very, very selectively. You don't want to try to force pitchers into the definition of dominant.

Santana has had his profitable stretches. And so has Halladay.

Judgement call of course. But I think if you take this match-up of the Blue Jays - who are 5-2 at home - behind Halladay - who is looking well settled-in - against the Rangers - who are 0-3 on the road, the Blue Jays should win more than 67% of the time which is the break-even point dictated by the odds.

I believe that is all I have to say. I mean besides Go Jays.

I was considering playing the rangers here Mudder..... but I back off at that and am now just not playing this game... I agree with you about halladay, I love this guy and I think of all the top pitchers he gets the least amount of respect, and so there is often value with him even in high chalk.... this guy is the #1 pitcher for the last 5 or so years hands down.

I think he has as many complete games or shut outs in that time as half of the league combined....

but the Rangers historically have hitten him pretty well, so i'm gonna just watch

Funny you mention it. I just a couple days ago saw a video of me playing a song at my sister's wedding. Someone asked if they could post it on YouTube and I said sure. I don't know if that has happened or not but I am supposed to get my own copy in some form soon.

I was actually being kind of silly with the tone of this thread. I've been here since day 1 of the forum and have posted hundreds and hundreds of picks. I am not exaggerating when I say, I have been losing posted plays on filthy garlicky teams for billions of years.

No, I ended up writing a song for the occasion. It wasn't my plan but it just kind of happened.

I don't know the person who was threatening to put it on YouTube very well (friend of a friend of a friend), so I haven't been able to ask them if I am on YouTube already. But anyway I'll work something out.

As I think I mentioned, I don't know what form my copy of the performance will come in. DVD? E-mail attachment? Don't know. I may need some coaching but I imagine it can be translated to the forum one way or another.

Did you ride him today mud? I didn't simply because the value seemed to be in the over 8.5 at +110. I never ever lay chalk of -200 no matter how good the pitcher is. I need the mets tonight to get me out of my 2-2 day on the ML. Mind you Texas was my best bet and cashed large.

I hesitate to answer because of the fundamental lameness of saying you bet something after the game is over. But it's fair to say the logic I applied to that losing bet has been applicable to every Halladay start since then.
