Think about this one before saying A-Rod immediately...
1) In the last 5 years in the major leagues, Gobble has only struck out once. Rodriquez has stuck out 646 times. That's 646 times more.
2) A-Rod has been caught stealing 21 times between 2004-2008. Gobble has not been caught stealing once. That's right - he has not been caught stealing a single time in his career.
3) In 6 seasons, Gobble has made 6 errors - that's one error per year. In the last 6 seasons, A-Rod has made 80 errors - that's over 13 a year.
4) Sportsnet says that "His curveball is his best pitch and it's great by any standards." They decline to say anything about A-Rod's pitching.
There you have it - Gobble has better plate discipline, doesn't get caught running the bases, commits very few errors and is an altogether better pitcher than A-Rod.
He may never touch A-Rod's hype, but he may prove to be the better of the two in a couple of seasons.
