Btw, this Maddon worship has to stop. Collins' Mets look sharper and more disciplined.

Completely agree. Maddon's "strategy" of having the pitcher bat 8th led to a preventable scenario in yesterday's game. There's only a few times each game where the manager has to make a real decision, namely in how they use the bp. Most baseball situations write themselves, but Maddon is a tinkerer and a liability, just like Mattingly.

There's no reason you bat Hammel 8th, unless you believe that Ross is a worse hitter, which is not the case.

Hendricks batted 8th last night and he is a way worse hitter than Hammel. Hendricks might be the worst hitter in the majors. Joe has batted pitcher 8th most of the season. I don't like it either.

It will be interesting to see if there's another scenario like last night's game, where the pitcher in the 8th spot is in a situation where his bat is needed and there are two outs. Say what you will about the final score of last night's game, but Hendricks was doing a decent job and the Cubs could have avoided rolling out Cahill.

Another 4 runs or more that the cubbies have given up--that makes 7 out of 8.
