Someone explain to me what happens to MLB pitchers
They'll be cruisin along throwin strikes and a few balls just normal outing giving up up a few hits and a run or two then all of a sudden seem to forget where the plate is, just throw 8 balls in a row, get behind some beast then serve up a ball my grandmother could homer on and watch it clear the planet

I just dont get it, I mean I understand goin 3-0, 3-1, then walkin a guy but doing it back to back balls miles out of the strike zone when the pitcher was pitching solidly up until then, I dont get it, seems to happen around the 4th or 5th inning in almost every game, do they just get so tired they cant even find the zone or is it mental breakdown, hell whats the idea in walking a leadoff hitter anyway, I mean what the fuk is the worst that can happen he homers and gets one run like 1 out of 30 times or more, fukin pitch to that cocksucker and make him earn that base, give up a leadoff homer every 3 games if you have to but make him fukin earn it

Nothing in baseball pisses people off more than some of these walks. I think it does become mental after the 7th ball or so.

alot of it, or most of it is those scouting reports, some scout and number cruncher dude will say so-n-so is hitting this or that in this or that situation, then you got the catcher trying to follow it, or sometimes the manager wants to try and get a guy to chase pitches so he calls out corner pitches. Sometimes it can be just a simple mental thing, could be something as simple as a fan yelled something, or the batter he's up against has just owned him.

          lot of variables in play.

One thing you have to remember is that pitcher's aren't just trying to throw the ball OVER the plate, they are trying to hit a spot that is like 2 inches by 2 inches on a corner and borderline low and maybe somtimes high depending on the pitch. They are not aiming at the dead red center of the plate, otherwise they would give up 10 runs in 2 innings and be gone. Most hitters in MLB would hit .450 if they got fat pitches down the middle every at bat. so it is alot easier to miss and walk guys when you are pitching to a tiny little corcer down and away from a righty.

that being said, yeah somtimes you just "lose" your control and have "temporary" steve blass/rick ankiel disease. and you have you guys that some days, just can't flat out hit the strike zone, even if they do try to groove it... but it is rare.

this is why I loved watching a guy like Maddux, the avg baseball fan could not begin to fathom how masterful he was. You have to understand that the guy did not have top 5,000 "stuff" in the world after his first 10 years in the league, yet he still got great hitters out, by control changing eye levels, and changing speeds masterfully.... a true pitcher and not just a thrower... You could catch maddux with your eyes closed on his best days, in fact I think it was him I read about where they tried that experiment for fun with a minor league catcher one spring.

Chi I certainly understand they are not trying to groove it down the middle, I mean any1 with 2 braincells understands that they are trying to catch the edges of the strike zone, but I'm talkin about throwin ball 2 ft outside, ball 2 in the dirt, ball 3 almost hits the guy, pitch 4 grooved down the middle for a homer if he swings, then ball 4 almost hitting him again, repeat the process with the next hitter, at this point the hitters realize he's throwin nothing but balls and just either rack up the walks or rack up the counts in their favor by never swinging at the first two pitches then get served a HR pitch, if I were a MLB pitcher I would literally NEVER walk two guys in a row to leadoff an inning, it just doesn't make any fukin sense, maybe I'd give up more homers maybe guys would have a higher batting avg by pitching to them instead of walking them but in the long run guys who get hits 25-30% of the time are going to take 3-4 ABs to get that single you're giving them for nothing

After their 12th ball in a row I think they're just trying to hit the plate. No matter how you grove the pitch chances are they'll hit it at somebody.
Yes Maddux was a master. You'd never see him in that position. Did he retire?

Danny Haren for the season. ERA 1.89. W/L record 0-3.

Dark if you watch the Dbacks lineup you'll see why he is 0-3, they may be the worst team in baseball this year, got like 4 hitters batting under 100, got another couple 200 hitters, a couple 250s and a 300, for a team batting avg of around 180, also these guys dont even take walks they just literally swing at anything get out and sit down, in those 3 games for Haren the Dbacks scored a total of 1 run
