WASHINGTON -- Philadelphia Phillies broadcaster Harry Kalas has died at the age of 73, team president David Montgomery said Monday.
Kalas, who also filled a voiceover role for NFL Films since 1975, was taken to a hospital Monday after passing out in the broadcast booth before Monday's game against the Washington Nationals.
The 73-year-old Kalas, known for his distinctive "Outta here!" call on home runs, was found by the Phillies director of broadcasting at about 12:30 p.m., Montgomery said.
Kalas joined the Phillies in 1971. Before that, he was an original member of the Houston Astros' broadcast team from 1965-70.
In 2002, he received the Baseball Hall of Fame's Ford C. Frick Award for his contributions to the game.
Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

Sad day, great broadcaster. Heard him when I was a kid and he was just breaking into the business on the MLB level with the Houston club, always gave a lot of credit to longtime Houston voice Gene Elston for helping him out back then. Unique delivery and voice, hate to hear this. Condolences to his family, friends and Phillies fans who have listened him over the years.

                That's a shame.

I can picture him saying "Von Hayes" in Center

This is too sad. He's the first voice I heard when I started watching Phillies' games about 9 years ago. It won't be the same without him.

FYI, I didn't see a thread about it so I started one and pardon the hell out of me for posting something that I thought was "worthy" for a thread. I guess everyone should run it through you first and get your approval for a post/thread to make certain it's not a similar thread. And that's coming from a person who responded "who" earlier in the thread.

Maybe a mod could correct the thread to read "Harry Kaliss" (or not).
