Those cheap HPs you see everywhere are quite good. They're built a lot tougher than Toshibas and Dells in the same price range.

Buy a model that accepts high-capacity batteries or two batteries at once. Bought a generic double battery on eBay for $50 last year and I still get 4-5 hours on a charge.

Make no mistake, Apple products are good but there is no value in buying them at all. Those are overpriced luxury items.

i have a compaq cq-50 110us, check em out, 3g ram 200g hard drive, no fancy camera or nothing like that but a steal at frys for 580 after tax with a 30$ mail in rebate that i filed with the rest of the rebates i have saved over the years and never used. If this kid doesnt pay me tomorrow i will have macbook a1106 that i can sell you for super cheap, its missing the cap lock key but i can have it fixed before shipping it to ya, or just take it off the pricee, i also don't have the cables but the battery has plaenty of juice so i know it works fine.

Sempron processor + Vista = slow as molasses. Not a bad deal if you manage to install XP on it, but I wouldn't bother.

That is just a perfect example of a good deal on a good value laptop by HP.

The main problem with ANY value laptop is that those are very heavy which somewhat defeats the main laptop's purpose of mobility. This laptop weights 6.5 lb. Carrying such a monster around for a whole day is not for everyone. Whoever is looking for something lighter should get a closer look at the netbooks that weight under 2.5 lbs.

Batteries are not going to last in most notebooks more than 2 hours period, the lighter the book the more battery life. I think apple is coming out with one or is out that has like 6hrs a day life to it.

yea rigt i have a compaq that i got for 580 and thay are owned by hp, a great computer for a great price, i demand u explain yourself, ve had it for 10 months or so without one problem at all and it is a great laptom, hands down for the price, i shopped for months to find a 3g ram 200g hd with a dual processor and i found the beauty im typing on now, i bought it with poker winnings and since then i can now watch my 42in lcd also bought w/poker winnings and play at the same time, it has paid itself off at least tenfold... compaq's are cheap and reliable so dont listen to the guy.
