Is Joe Morgan the only color commentator worth a shit? Not only was he a great player on the greatest team, but he always has something worthwhile to say.

Something resembling coherency would be a nice start. After that he can progress to saying something that shows a basic understanding of the sport.

didn't know that people think he's a poor commentator. I usually find color commentary takes away from the game. But I find him informative and like his demeanor. Today, for example he was talking about rhythm the infielders have...thats cool.

i remember along time ago...watching a game....and a center fielder charged a line drive coming at him and dropped the ball...morgan mentioned something about the outfielders feet when he was charging the liner and how he was running....something about being on his heels instead of his toes and how it might have blurred his vision when the ball went of his glove....they slowed it down and sure enough the guy was running on his heels
i dunno...i like joe morgan....seems alot of people have a problem with him....same with cris collinsworth and football...most people are put off by him...i think hes great at what he does

THIS IS CLASSIC MORGAN:
Joe Morgan explained that there are more groundballs hit to the right side of the infield because “the field is sloped a little bit that direction.”

Sandberg better? Morgan was a bit before my time. I was gonna say there has to be some bigger name. But I guess not too many famous 2nd basemen.

Joe Morgan & Jon Miller make Sunday Night Baseball unlistenable. Anyone who bats 3-6 is automatically a SLUGGER. I swear get a F-ing thesaurus. Listen next time they do a broadcast, Miller will never call the middle of the order guys anything but SLUGGERS. Joe Morgan is just a moron. I think he lives just to be able to call a slider a slide piece because he thinks it makes him sound cool.
I don't really think any of the ESPN color guys are any good. Sutcliffe is probably less of a tool than most, but still ridiculous. I am subject to Rangers & Astros games in Texas. I like Jim Deshaies the most as a color guy for Houston, the Rangers broadcast crew might be the gayest out there. Josh Lleweyn is a homo & Tom Grieve harps on some of the stupidest crap. The other day he was harping on how a called ball should have been a strike and how the pitcher could have been done with the inning 12 pitches ago if the pitch was called right. And he kept added the pitches with each at-bat. He coulda been done 14 pitches ago. I love broadcasters.

I didn't watch much of tonight's telecast, but I did catch Morgan explaining (or trying to) why he would bat his worst hitter 7th in the order. Fucking nightmare.

Hornsby...too long ago
Sandberg...I saw a lot of him. He played during the time I was a big fan. He was like a fan favorite and all. But I don't think he was one of the top players of his era. Though he would certainly be a top offensive 2nd baseman of the era.

Agree, Morgan is very informative and I personally enjoy his commentary. Most games I watch on mute due to annoying commentators, but he is one of the few where I can actually watch the game with sound. LA Dodgers Vin Scully is also bearable as he usually has great stories and insight after 60 years of broadcasting.

Joe Morgan's alter ego is Captain Obvious. The guy points out about 35 obvious things per game. And then drones on about them.

Joe Morgan is one of my favorite players of all-time. I don't have as much of a problem as others with his broadcasting, but I still mute the TV 90% of the time he's on. I mute 100% of the time Tim McCarver is on.

Agree - Morgan is very good. But Rick Sutcliffe is the best IMO. His enthusiasm and love for the game bleeds through on every broadcast, and he's not afraid to say exactly what he thinks. The other night he was excoriating in his criticism of home plate umpire Bob Davidson's ball and strike calls.
