My ISP offers a 2nd IP address
How do I hook up a second computer to it? Can I run it from the same modem? Add another ethernet cable to back of router?

compaqdikk i am coming for you

i don't understand the ip number my ips says i have, they give a different number than when i use a service to check what mine is supposed to be. Plus alot of times when i check through those online services it changes from service to service or day-to-day or week-to-week.

I think my isp has some random ip's or something.

            InTheHole, that is correct.

Books must be aware of this

LouisvilleKid, I bet that's because you use a router.

If you're in windows and do Start --> Run and type "cmd", then type ipconfig in the black window, you'll often get a different ip# than what some website will tell you your ip is.

Book I imagine are generally looking at the overall IP login (by number) as well as location which is usually as narrow as county

Math, i did what you said and my ip in that black box is totally different than what online sites are giving me at the moment. I tried typing in the ip from the black box and a trace comes back with "locked LAN connection, invalid something or other" , but any of those "whats my ip" type sites give a totally different ip, as in all 3-4 sets of numbers are way different, but they give my internet providers name, my state, and my city.
