both spurs and heat were near the tops of the league in 3pts the last couple years if i remember correctly
besides that, the spurs recent revival was due to a shift from post to perimeter offense
look at the top teams that were in the playoffs
houston, GS, spurs, dallas, cavs, and dam near the entire hawks squad are perimeter oriented or have top perimeter players on those teams
