Big Papi was not always a super star. Remember him in Minnesota?
Pre-Swagger?
Remember Manny Rameriz pre- Swagger?
Do you know the story in Minnesota?
Who is David Arias?
Mariners traded David Arias to the Twins in 1996 because their third baseman Russell Davis (one time NYY) broke his leg chasing a ball in a game against KC.
Mariners were in the thick of the pennant race, and needed an established player to replace Davis, Twins traded Dave Hollins to the M's (Hollins was a IF/OF) for a up and coming kid David Arias (David Ortiz).
Yeah, of course Ortiz wasn't a superstar yet in Minnesota, as if I need a baseball history lesson from you, he was only in his 20's, and he hit 20 homeruns the year he was released, and he wasn't playing on a regular basis.
He was released by the Twins because Twins didn't have the money to pay him, they wanted defense, and he was hurt all the time.
He had bad leg, he had a broken wrist, tons of issues.
He was taking steroids for the same reason Pettitte was taking steroids, to help with the injuries.
Funny how he breaks his wrist, year later he gets to Boston he hits 31 homers, than 41 homers, then 47 homes, than 54 homers.
Hmmmmm.
David Arias as a kid always was a star in the making, Twins ****** with his stance too, tried to make hm go up the middle more, opposite field too.
Vargas in not, and never will be Ortiz.
Want to talk about Manny now?

Max Scherezer will be about -180 on opening day so playing the -1 should get me about -140.
As far as Ace Ventura he has a has pretty sick curve ball and change-up. He is not a 1 trick pony and i project him going 6 innings and i trust the Royals bullpen to do a good job.
nationals are -185
all the lines are out!

Take Bummy on the road, on the run line.
Giant on the road, hit in the ninth regardless.

Careful with putting to much stock in Hamels. His last couple of spring starts have looked better but can't imagine he is too enthusiastic about opening another season on another horrible Phillies team.

Tough to bet the first few weeks as bullpens are the most volatile aspect of a MLB roster year to year.... And bullpens are relied upon the most in the first few weeks as starters aren't fully stretched out yet. Weather is also an issue, many players struggle in colder weather but we don't always know which young players that might be.
