#107I wouldn't pay mind to that tool bag. Clearly thinking outside the box is not his strong suit.Originally posted by EVfollowerFor the guy who said that adults shouldn't collect baseball cards, its become an adult industry honestly. Gone are the days of rookie cards and such, now the days of bat barrels, nameplates, game used memorabilia, autographs and such are the value in the industry.
One of the relievers on the Arizona Diamondbacks, Ziegler collects BIGTIME. I know in the past year hes spent over $25,000 alone buying nice cards.
Heres a story on him and his collection: http://www.beckett.com/news/2013/07/...aseball-cards/
Check his twitter too, he posts amazing cards he buys on there sometimes.Comment -

#108I used to collect cards a ton when I was a kid. Had the 89 Upper Deck Griffey Rookie card and the complete 1990 Leaf Set. I also had like an 84 Topps Ozzie Smith Rookie Card along with a Paul Molitor rookie card.Originally posted by CMNoneyTell that to all the Lawyers, Doctors and even pro athletes that do.
It's not a little kids hobby anymore. The sports card industry has turned into a business.
You have absolutely no clue what you're talking about.
Then I had some cards from the 70s that included Willie Mays and Johnny Bench. I collected the shit out of cards until like 1996 when I was in high school. At that point they were mass produced and it was all about the limited edition insert cards.
Unless you're collecting Micky Mantle cards or Honus Wagner Rookie cards there just didn't seem to be much money in it and I didn't really give a shit about getting a 1 inch piece of a game used jersey or an insert of a card another grown man signed.
Also, just because Beckett says a card is worth say $150, good luck actually getting that for it.
I've been out of the game since the mid-90's when the card collecting craze was dieing out. I never realized it ever came back. Maybe I've just been living under a rock.
Maybe it's that I'm just older and I've been to a ton of sporting events so I've been close to pro players so I'm just desensitized to it. It's just not a big deal.
Then again different people have different hobbies. It just seems like I outgrew it.Comment -

Lawyers and Doctors typically collect things that are worth thousands of dollars. Not these little cardboard cards that have "limite inserts" sold at gas stations and Wal-Mart.
People here are worried about $50.Comment -

#111Baseball cards went to hell in the mid-late 90's. I had an incredible collection that I was lucky enough to sell at peak market prices when I was 17 yo, unfortunately all the profits went directly to a bookie who just built a million + retirement home.Comment -
