#18Taking time out of the all-consuming business of keeping your life moving forward to step back and see if the forward progress you're making is in the direction you want is a process that should be lifelong. We're constantly evolving as people, and as we get older we prioritize different things in life.
It's good to recognize that and not be afraid to change our foci in mid-stream to better reflect our deepest hopes and dreams. I applaud you for not only indulging the process, but being strong enough to share it with us, JJ. Feel free to bounce ideas off us. What is it that you want out of life that you don't feel you're doing enough to achieve?

I suffer from the same thing, oftentimes I just have to force myself to continue the things I've started when my natural tendencies are to abandon them and start something new. After awhile the wanderlust starts to become more manageable the more rewards you achieve from forcing yourself to make a commitment.Originally posted by StraitShooter90% of the guys dont give a shit about your problems..and the other 10 are glad you have them..Comment -

#28Originally posted by slacker00I've been in a middle age crisis since before I was a teenager. It's fear of commitment, for me, if I had to narrow it down to a single concept. I can't commit to any kind of occupation, relationship, lifestyle or even recreational interests for more than a few months at a time. Things get stagnate, boring, lame and I keep reinventing my life month by month. Unfortunately, I'm constantly searching for an identity for myself that always seems to be just beyond my grasp. There certainly is a certain existential agony, maybe simple jealousy of others who seem to find long term peace whereas I am always in some kind of psychological transition.
i think all true gamblers goes through what you described. cuz once your start gambling, whatever the goals you had before are gone...the only thing you can focus and cares about is winning and making as much money as possible. you start to care less about "trivial" things like the things normal people care about.
i can see why jj is having the same crisis as well. he's been gambling for so long...no doubt he had his ups and downs. i bet he lived a somewhat interesting life, but still, gambler's life seems to be a void. you get the high after a big winning streak, but soon after you feel the emptiness like after a one night stand or coming down from top quality snow. that is why some good cappers can lose their bankroll because their mind is not right.
finding yourself is not an easy process. there is no ah-ha moment. i think it is a long gradual process where you start to look at things about yourself that you were too afraid or too proud to admit before. finding out why you're in this situation is not easy because you have to admit certain things you were doing so proudly before were completely idiotic.
imo, religion is a shortcut for some people because there is already a well though out thinking process where if you decide to be part of the group your life has meaning. for others, they tend to do self-enlightenment, which imo, is much harder than join some religious group.
i think the world is a miserable place because it is run by bunch of assholes. that is why people are miserable and we all try to find ourselves. imo, once you decide to finding yourself, at that moment you realize you need to do something to make yourself happy. by realizing it, you already made 1/3 of the progress.Comment -
