    SBR John - Canbet/Isabet
Can you shed some info as to what you are hearing they will do? Below is a live chat transcript, do you believe what they are saying?

Ryan: Welcome to Live Chat, this is Ryan, how can i assist you?
you: can you tell me if canbet will continue to take wagers from US clients
Ryan: are you a current member?
    you: yep
Ryan: Ok, The U.S legislation will not effect our trading with "current clients"
Ryan: We are not specifically targeting the U.S market and therefor have no obligiation to stop our services as we are an international bookmaker.
    you: ok, thank you
    Ryan: My pleasure,

I'd definitely get further clarification from management...I'd be a little leary if they aren't targeting future U.S. clients...

Thats also what we have heard from them last week.

In light of what we have seen from companies with similiar corporate structure, I'd be inclined to say give Canbet a break and head for the sidelines.

I won my Tigers AL pennant future there fortunately and unfortunately. I'm worried about having funds tied up at British books at this time.Still have a rollover to meet before I can withdraw.I also have 2 other futures pending. Let's hope they remain honorable in their dealings with U.S. customers.

I'll redeposit with Canbet soon. They're not dependent on the US market and have been around a long time. I keep about ten books funded to lower my risk in case one goes south.

Here is the conversation I had with Canbet on Live Chat:

Please wait for a site operator to respond.
You are now chatting with 'Darren'
Darren: Hello. How may I assist you?
you: I wanted to know what your policy is going forward on taking wagers from US clients in light of the new legislation.
                you: Hello?
Darren: We are still accepting bets over the internet from US clients
you: Can you elaborate what "still" is? Some companies have decided (i.e., WTTS) to stop taking wagers from US clients and then had their accounts frozen and the clients could not take out funds.
Darren: canbet will still be running as usual
Darren: are you a new customer?
                you: No.
Darren: we have only stopped US poker clients from playing any real money games
you: Did they have access to their funds? If you decided to stop taking sports wagers, would I be able to take out my funds?
Darren: yes you would still be able to take funds out
                Darren: that won
Darren: that won't be the case however, we will still continue to operate as normal
you: So if a deposited $xxxx today and won a $xxx "at risk" wager tommorrow (forget about bonuses for now), then let's say on Thursday you decide that you will no longer take any wagers from US wagers, then is it true that I would only be able to withdraw $xxx after you made the decision not take any more wagers from US clients?
Darren: whatever is in your account at the time will still be in there
you: And I would be able withdraw the total amount, if you were to decide not to take on any more US wagers?
                Darren: yes
                Darren: your money is safe
you: Thank you, and have a good night.
                Darren: have a nice night

Some of the comments in this string were not totally convincing. I have two low juice I work with now. Although I'd like re-fund Canbet I will be looking for the smoke to clear myself.

If IAS/Canbet ever said "we are going to focus on our non-US facing business" you can count them as one of the few that actually have that existing business to focus on. IAS is almost all international even though they allow US signups.

That sucks about Canbet poker. I was going to take advantage of their $500 poker bonus that expires tomorrow.

Does IAS in fact still take Americans? I thought I remembered when they bought Canbet they shifted all their American accounts there and stopped allowing Americans at IAS.

Canbet no longer takes Phone bets from US players, but internet betting is as it was. For whatever reason, that was their reaction to the law, and they started that even before Bush signed the Fascistic law. Since I only used them for phone betting, as I can't place bets with theiir software, I sadly had to withdraw my balance. It was in Neteller while I still was on the phone with CS. I hope they reconsider because I'd love to re-up with them.

My advice on this issue is as follows:

Other Australian gambling institutions have made the tough decision to remove themselves from the US market. Australian licenses are very closely regulated by the Australian government. I suspect Canbet will ultimately be pressured to leave, also. I am almost positive they will immediately refund any monies owed if they choose to cut off US players.

No need to rush and get your money out. Play until they say you can't anymore and then they'll send you your money.

I'm really dissapointed in good books like this that have jumped the gun early regarding the bill...
