I just saw the most exciting moment Ive ever seen on TV, was it fake?
I love the show Deal or No Deal, maybe you like it maybe you dont but let me explain what just happened (Im not sure if it was a rerun or not).

The contestant was a large black woman named Koshka who had a dream of being on Broadway, anyway midway through the episode a big Broadway director came on and offered her a trip to New York, a walk-on role in "Hairspray" and an audition for a Broadway musical IF she went all the way, I mean all the way turn down all the offers and win whats in her case.

Anyway she ended up with 1 mil and 3 other 10k or less cases, she turned down 170k and chose another case, it was low and she then turned down 288k so shes got the million and 2 other cases (one with .01 and one with 5k), she chooses the case and it has .01 in it, she is now down to two cases 1 WITH 1 MILLION DOLLARS IN IT, the other with only 5k, the banker offers her 530k guaranteed to quit, everyone on planet earth would've taken the money, everyone of her family members told her to take the deal, every alien in other galaxies expected her to take the deal...

    She turned it down

They asked her if she wanted to switch cases (as they always do if u go all the way) or keep her own, she said she "knew" the million was in her case so she kept it, her case held...

    The 5k

That black woman turned down 525k guaranteed for a 50/50 shot at 470k and a trip to new york and a walk-on role in a musical

She is either the biggest gambler of all time or this was fake, I dont know what to believe, her family was goin through all the things she could do with the money pay off her home, her dad's home, go on vacation, etc. etc. etc. and she said nobody ever goes all the way and Im crazy but no deal

If that was real it was the single greatest moment I've seen on TV in my 28 years on this earth, absolutely incredible, did anyone see this episode tonight or if its a rerun see it when it aired before? If so please tell me this is real as Im having trouble believing that anyone on earth would have done what she did, I really feel like they should give her the million just for having balls the size of planets and providing an incredible TV moment if it was real

I wonder if it was better then the fat guy who had only his case and 1 other left. Either $1 or $1,000,000

He said no deal and his case was $1.

Are you serious, are these ppl for fukin real? They even offered her 530k vs a potential 470k she could win on a coinflip, I mean even if you are rich you gotta take that deal. Fukin unreal these people if this show is for real, this was just a fat black woman, I mean if it was some millionaire maybe I could imagine it but no way this bitch makes over 50k even in a high cost of living city, in fact she even said that 170k offer would take her 4 years to earn

Absolutely unreal, but I mean at least and trust me I would've taken the money and run but at least he was getting 584k to his 416 on his coinflip and he looks like might have a decent job, just the way his wife was sayin its all cake if its the $1 and basically encouraging him to go for it leads me to believe they were well off, granted it was still an absolutely unreal large gamble on a coinflip even getting decent odds

But this big black woman was getting 470k to her 530k on a coinflip, ok so we've established she's not only an incredible gambler but doesn't even care about odds, secondy she basically explained earlier that she makes around 40k a year, so we're talkin about gambling with what it will take her 13 years to earn workin 40+ hours a week, also her family was basically tackling her to keep her from saying No Deal, basically explaining as plain as day you HAVE to take this deal, this is it you have won just take the deal and walkaway dont be a complete moron, her brother was like standing between her and the button trying to convince her she HAS to take the deal, it was just the most unreal thing Ive ever seen in my life, though that fat white dude turning down the 416k was also unreal but Koshka takes the absolute cake, she prolly get 500 emails a day from books offering 100% deposit bonuses after that episode

Here is the last 3 mins of the Koshka episode, I truly have seen everything, I mean they offered her over half on a coinflip, they asked her if shed like to keep the 525k or coinflip for a chance to win 470k, I literally am at a loss for words right now, Koshka owns the single greatest moment in game show history, maybe TV history, if I had her paypal I would send her 10 bucks just for having the biggest balls on the planet and showing me something that an hour later I am still having trouble compehending, I would slammed down the deal button at 288k, she turned it down and pulled the .01 by some miracle THEN TURNED DOWN 530K

It seems the trip was more valuable to her.

That aside, she actually picked a large underdog (her box) over a favorite (the other box). I do not watch the show and do not know the details but if there were 10 boxes at the beginning of the show, 9 times out of 10, the $1,000,000 was in the other box, so, she was making 1/10 shot.

The mistake she made is fairly common. What I find more amusing is that being a gambling forum regular, you do not realize that she was not making a 50/50 shot.

Dumb move by the lady, that 530k was life changing money. I would of said fuk the walk on and audition and took the money. Don't watch Deal of no deal that much, catch the last 10 minutes of the show is all you need since almost no one will take the deal after a few cases opened.

Yes she should've switched cases to make it a true 50/50 shot (I've seen 21 as well) but the point was even at a 50/50 shot you couldn't risk 530k to win 470k? You dont sound like you watch the show very much or at all, they NEVER offer more than half, normally her offer would've been like 420k, so you could switch cases and be risking 415k to win 580k which is not a bad coinflip but of course most ppl cant afford to risk that amount of money so they take the 420k and jump up and down in excitement, this time they offered 530k so she was risking 525k to win 470k, nobody even a multimillionaire much less a black woman making 40k a year could turn that down, this moment was so confusing that I dont even want to think about it, it makes my head hurt to try to comprehend what this lady was thinking, she flat out says shes crazy before yelling NO DEAL and slamming down the box and that is the only explanation I have come up with after thinking about this for several hours, they basically found the only person on earth who would ignore her family screaming to take the deal, ignore odds, ignore the pain of losing 525k when you only have a 40k a year job, ignore the unanimous opinion of the entire universe and turn down that deal, it is the most memorable and shocking moment Ive ever seen on TV

come on b, this is the worst show ever.
banker pretty much offers them full value. There's no real strategy except to determine how much x amount means to you. And they wont let anyone on the show who really needs the money, because taking the first offer wouldn't make much of a show.
So all we're left with is a bunch of screaming, howling, overly emotional idiocy.

                                                that was her motivation

Completely disagree reno, you clearly are not a fan of this great show which is fine but you are 100% wrong about the offers being fair, this was EXTREMELY strange offering her 530k when only 5k and 1 mil remain, I expected an offer of around 420-430k and they offered her over 100k more than that and she still turned it down which was literally impossibe and something not 5 ppl on earth would have done

The banker almost always offers considerably less than fair value, give an example 3 cases left 100k 5 dollars and 1 dollar should get an offer of just over 33k yet the banker will offer like 25

2 cases left 50k and 5 dollars the banker will offer 20k, if they offered the fair amount then ppl would actually take the first offer but that is never the case, also this crazy black woman claims to live in California and only make 40k a year, if true she definitely could use the money

bettil, you fail to understand American society.

You are looking at things through the eyes of a 28 yo white man. That is why this episode is stunning to you. I assure you that prolly 90% of the black population would have done exactly the same thing that that Queen Latifah did.... and she didn't 'go for it' they would've yelled at the screen and hollered 'She be crazy'.

Thus in her mind she did the rational and logical thing.

The real discussion should be whether DEAL OR NO DEAL is a racist show.... b/c to everyone else they don't offer fair value.... but to the black woman they assume she's gonna do the stupid thing... so they pile even more money on top of it so her brain can register it... and, o/c, there was no registering taking place.. b/c that doesn't happen for black people

So you need to step out of your white perception of world and the idea that everybody thinks alike and that we all have the capacity to equally measure things.

The irony is that for you (a rational civilized white dude) she did a crazy thing.... but for her (an average black woman) she did the absolute smart thing. You get the difference?

well, it's pretty close. Early on they offer slightly less because they want to encourage you to keep playing. When a large sum is at risk towards the end they're happy for you to stop.
And fair value would be over 500K, not 430
Of course I agree with you that to most people their first 500k is worth more than their second. ie she's overbetting her bankroll.

Yes fair value would have been over 500k which is why I was expecting an offer of around 420-430 bc that would put her to the test of how much she was willing to risk to go for the million, only a complete crackhead would turn down 530k for a coinflip at a mil but math wise you could turn down 420k for a coinflip at a mil and be correct to do so but most would take the 420k bc they're scared they'll lose the coinflip and go home with nothing
