    This will hurt our economy
I'm sure the Nfl is not too happy about this. Myself and many others would not even watch the games if we could not wager on them. There would be less Nfl packages sold. The Nfl magazines that have predictions and player ratings would not sell as well. I know the Nfl is probably the most nervous because of the fixed or poorly called Super bowl last year which caused many fans to have a sour taste in their mouth.

    Any thoughts on this.

i was listening to the yankee game on the radio and heard a betusa advertisement during a break

seems funny to have ads flying around after the new bill was passed

dunno how long the period of time before things are clamped down

this new bill is such a joke

90% of the population doesn't want it.....and the goverment is suppose to represent the public

If it sticks, you'll see lower ratings for football especially.
The NFL is BUILT on betting. Even national college football is aided mostly by betting. The Bowl games, because of their huge numbers, have to go down in ratings by pretty sizable numbers.

Also, late-in-game ratings will be terrible.

      Will it hurt the economy?
I doubt it - it should HELP it, actually. That's over a billion/year that stays in the US. If that money went to an illegal bookie instead of offshore, it benefits our econmy quite a bit.

It IS going to be devastating to the poker players, though. Harrah's is going to lose hundreds of millions in straight profit at next year's World Series.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but weren't the NFL backing the legislation?

NFL and NCAA both backed the legislation.

The NFL was a major force behind this legislation.

I dont think the impact to the "economy" will be anywhere near what's being posted here. People will still bet, and directv will still be a huge ripoff

guys, regardless of what the NFL said publicly, they know that over half of the fans watch these games strictly because of gambling...this bill will have a ripple in the pond effect for sure...

It will probably save the economy some $. Still, I hate to see folks rights taken away. That's a brutal price to pay to apease the far right.

Personally, I am not for the free for all gambling like we had. Our schools do not even touch on the dangers of gambling. A well regulated industry with a commitment to education and disclosure is what we need and some day I hope will have.
