I want my money more than I want him to lose his job. I go to superintendent and he will put heat on principal to pay up. The superintendent doesn't want that kind of negative publicity

I suspected this was the case, and it makes total sense. I do not know enough about you or him to know if beating him up is a realistic possibility, but I will lean towards assuming that it is not. (By "realistic possibility" I don't mean that you couldn't physically do it, I mean something like if you have a job and family and wouldn't risk getting into serious trouble with the law over a gambling debt).

My advice would be to try and work out some sort of payment schedule with the guy with the veiled threat that the media could happen to find out about his hobby otherwise.

Here's the thing. If the guy owes you money you should treat it and collect it like any legitimate business person. You're not a gangster. Call and harass the dude. Establish the proof that he owes you money. If gambling between friends is legal, take him to court or send him to collections. Don't do anything stupid.

There isn't a court in the land that would consider this "gambling between friends" and order the payment.

The provision from Louisiana that you quoted doesn't seem like it would apply.

It even says it is only legal debt if no one takes a fee for the action. I'm assuming this guy is a bookie and taking 10% or whatever you guys agreed upon juice.
