I suspected this was the case, and it makes total sense. I do not know enough about you or him to know if beating him up is a realistic possibility, but I will lean towards assuming that it is not. (By "realistic possibility" I don't mean that you couldn't physically do it, I mean something like if you have a job and family and wouldn't risk getting into serious trouble with the law over a gambling debt).

My advice would be to try and work out some sort of payment schedule with the guy with the veiled threat that the media could happen to find out about his hobby otherwise.

There isn't a court in the land that would consider this "gambling between friends" and order the payment.

Ya there's a lot of internet tough guys here. Even if you could beat him up, it would probably still be stupid thing to do so you should ignore the people who are calling you out for not taking to him with a pair of brass knuckles.

The provision from Louisiana that you quoted doesn't seem like it would apply.

It even says it is only legal debt if no one takes a fee for the action. I'm assuming this guy is a bookie and taking 10% or whatever you guys agreed upon juice.

Also, you said you didn't live in Louisiana.
