    World Cup scoring
What's the deal with these final scores? I heard during a broadcast that's it the highest scoring cup since 1958. I'll admit I don't follow soccer much but I'm killing it on the overs. 7-1 as of now including 4-0 today. Is this because it's still in group play and the teams are on different levels? I want to run this streak into the ground but don't want to get caught after group play ends. Any insight would be welcome.

I've watched most of the World Cup so far....lots of young blood out there just playing to win for the most part is all it comes down to

Seems like a lot of free-flowing games with lots of chances and coaches not trying to squeak by with a draw....letting their guys have fun and attack

Things could change at anytime though but Overs certainly looking like a trend

Games are wide open, both teams attack it's surprising. There has not been a draw yet

no draws definitely a byproduct of the high scores, a lot of cups in the past the coaches would play it safe in the first game, even in attractive matchups on paper, but you arent seeing that this time. the defense and goal keeping has been fairly awful to this point overall, so its really a combination of things. the highest goals per game with 32 teams is 2.67, that was in 1998, this tournament is on pace for 53 more goals then that one.

          I could see Switz/Ecuador ending 0-0, France/Honduras 1-0, and Argentina/Bosnia 2-0 tomorrow to kill the streak though

Only thing that blows that theory out of the water would be when a screw ball ref falls for a dive from a player and calls for a PK which opens a game up....and there are some divers on the pitch today

7 games so far with only one missed called. Officiating has been superb.

o.k...I guess if you don't include the Brazil game, Mexico game, the offside calls missed...right it's been superb

Others also see the officiating as bad at the start...so I wouldn't say it's just me....I really don't call Neymar's elbow as a "missed" call, but others have...so "superb" might be a tad strong:

Times' soccer columnist Sean Miller expresses dismay at how the officiating has taken the focus off the actual play on the field.

Amy Lawrence: A day after Brazil’s controversial win, further dubious decisions raise the question of what the World Cup would look like in a parallel universe where Sepp Blatter’s video challenges exist

Lots of own goals and penalty goals. That is why overs are hitting.
