    Defense vs Offense B. East vs ACC
    so people randomly throw out facts about the ACC's offense being very superior to the Big East's and the inability for some big east teams to score and how that could spell some trouble for the Big East teams in the dance.

    thought I would break down the numbers at my headquarters and get a better look at this....

    of the ACC and Big East teams going to the dance... here is how they fare offensively

    ACC= 77.6 ppg
    B.E= 76.5 ppg

    so about 1 point. UNC is head's and shoulders above every team in scoring though as they avg 90.2, the next highest are Wake at 81.4 and syracuse at 81.1 Lowest is FSU with 68.6

    Defense.... defense wins ball games IMO, but in the Dance 1 take over the game type scorer can carry you as well. but a good team defense or an exceptional man to man defender can help neutralize that risk...

    here are how the BE vs ACC numbers break down

    avg points given up per game

    ACC=68.7
    B.E = 65.4

    so again not as big of a disparity as you might think....

    lowest ppg given up is louisville with 59.9 next is wvu with 61.6 Fsu is best in the ACC with 65.0 worst in the B.E is syracuse with 69.5. Worst in the ACC is Unc with 72.8

    I will break down some ACC vs BE offensive and defensive stats in conference vs conference games involving "dancing" teams in my next post

    in the five games where a tourney ACC team played a Big East team

    the ACC scored 67.4 ppg and allowed 68.2 ppg

    in the 4 games where a Big East tourney team played an acc team the BE averaged 68.3 ppg and allowed 61.5

    the Pitt game at fsu game over-lapped both of those groupings (56-48 pitt win)

    too small of a sample size to determine much from the above... later i'll break down non conf schedules vs conf sched games and their PPG's

        UL v UNC champ game
        pitt goes out early, per usual, uconn makes elite 8 or more
        big east is the best, tpowell was right, for regular season, we will now see if they maintain it

        but UL is the best ive seen, they play unreal d
        their offense is god awful to me, though

          Ryan, I hope you are right, I would love to see UNC put another double digit win back to back years on them, we will see how great that defense is if we get this matchup, Ville will see what offense is, again.

            Pitt is in trouble with either Ok st or Tenn..... those are bad bad matchups for them... and reek of their typical early exit..

            Unde our avatar bet is still a go my friend...

            I think ACC and BE teams might make have a better chance at NOT making early exits and under-achieving like they both normally do as well this year though

              Big East and ACC will dominate this year I believe, other leagues are weak this season. Everyone seems to think we are going to see many upsets, I think it will play out pretty normal, we shall see.

                  I like Pitt, UConn is a pretender, UL is playing great right now but if they continue to take big deficits to the half it will bite them in the ass because they are not always going to play off their ass in the 2nd half like the last two games in the Big East tournament.

                    I think we can get Ry's 20k post in this thread to go with unde's 2k post..... when I hit 10k i'll try to bump this thread too...

                    Pitt is gonna be in trouble if a) levance fields isn't recovered from his injury yet and b) teams are smart and go right at Blair early and get him on the bench with foul trouble... I think every game they lost this year, involved blair getting in early foul trouble and only playing about 10 first half mins and then him fouling out in the 2nd half.....

                    I think Pitt is way TOO aware of their early exiting streak and will be playing tight once the 2nd round comes... Sam Young could be the player they've needed to avoid those type of games though, we shall see

                        after round two it should be interesting to see how the ACC offense vs Big East offense compares....

                        and the ACC offense/defense vs the Big Ten offense/defense should be interesting too
