UNLV +7.5 @ Kentucky Write Up
Kentucky is 4-9 in the last 13 and has gotten embarassed in all of the losses. The fans gave up on the season about 3 weeks ago and all of the discussion is about players transferring, players going pro, and who is going to coach next year. The players are fed up with it and according to media reports and facebook statuses I have seen of the players, they are ready for the season to be over with. The fans definitely are. Myself, I am rooting for UNLV because I don't want to have to watch this Kentucky team go on the road to Creighton in what would be the biggest opponent to make the visit to Creighton in the programs' history.

UNLV comes back to the state of Kentucky after already defeating Louisville in Freedom Hall, and one of UNLV's top players did not play in the game. They are 4-6 in the last 10 but did not really have a chance for the NCAA Tournament so they are motivated to come in and defeat the once powerhouse Kentucky on National TV. They have won @ Louisville and @ BYU, two very impressive road wins.

Another thing to consider here is that UK is not playing in their home arena because the state tournament is being played there this week. The game is being held at the old arena, and where the womens team currently plays. It seats about 8500 as opposed to 24,000 at Rupp Arena. It has sold out already, but the majority of fans are going to the game because it's likely the last ever mens game at the arena which is history filled.

No one is optimistic about winning the game, not the players, coach, media, or anyone. Take the +7.5 here, and put a nice chunk on the ML. It will hit as well.

Forgot to mention their pressure defense is exactly the type of thing that Kentucky cannot win against. Kentucky is one of the leading teams in the nation in turnovers and our starting point guard cannot even bring the ball up the court without turning it over. I see the Billy Gillispie era at Kentucky ending tomorrow night with yet another embarrassing loss to a mid major on national TV.

This is what I don't get about Kentucky. They force Tubby Smith out of Kentucky thinking he is the reason they aren't in the conversation for a national championship and all he does is go to Minnesota and builds that program up in a couple years, now they are dancing. Then they hire Gillespie and give him no time to get his own recruits in place to do anything and will end up firing him. Kentucky looks like the next Notre Dame (football), fans expectations are way too high right now so they play musical coaches. If this continues Kentucky will be going no where for a longtime just like Notre Dame football. Two programs who once were the top place to go to now just another school. Any fans of Kentucky just have to realize this team isn't anywhere near what they once were and it isn't going to happen overnight. The more coaches they cycle through the program in a short time the more pathetic the program will get, just look at Indiana.

already on UNLV (+7.5). Kentucky cant defend the perimeter and UNLV will light them up tonight. UK also won't be able to handle the basketball against UNLV

              Very good write-up kid.

I was considering the UNDER here, but was hoping for at least 136. Looks like I am passing now that it dropped to 133.5 at some places.

I like the under too. Kentucky's offense consists of dribbling for 30 seconds and passing it around the perimeter. UNLV applies pressure defense and will frustrate them. Probably going to tease UNLV and the under as well

Minnesota thanks the University of Kentucky for Tubby Smith. He is looked at as a God here in Minnesota with all the trouble and crap teams the Gophers have had the last few years. Tubby has turned the Gophers from a big ten bottom feeder team to the big dance.

Yes, because Kentucky has done so well since he left, I can see why they would want to get rid of him.

I live in Lexington and the original post hit the nail on the head. I was "Pro-Tubby" a couple of years ago, which put me in a minority. However, after lowly Georgia won at Rupp on Senior Night, Gillespie supporters have jumped off his wagon like rats on a sinking ship. After two years Tubby has clearly done more after inheriting less than Gillespie. BestPlay, I hope Minny dominates the Big 10 while he's up there.

Much of Gillespie's positioning on the hot seat he can blame on himself. The first year he just ignored the attention and P/R responsibilities the hoops coach has around the Bluegrass and pissed off a bunch of people. He still had a reprieve while people were waiting on him to bring in his own players, but this year he's clearly underachieved. It's not unusual for a high profile program to worry about two players leaving early for the NBA. It's also not unusual for a program to worry about missing the Big Dance. It is however, very unusual for the same program to have both problems in the same season. His personal behavior since arrival could utimately be overlooked if he was winning more, but now that they've missed the tournament for the first time since the probation days of 1992 Billy Clyde is losing support fast.

Personally I think more likely than not he will return for one more season, but I still wouldn't be surprised to see him gone. If he does leave, I expect he would latch on somewhere else and turn them into a winner just like he did at UTEP & A&M. However, the extra attention that comes with the UK job might just make this a bad fit for him. Kentucky doesn't need someone to build a winning tradition like A&M did. They need someone to add to the tradition that already exists here. BG is quirky as hell on a good day. Aside from rumors of his personal behavior, he's had some strange substitution patterns and is stubborn as hell about refusing to play a zone defense. He threw one of his players under the bus for his poor defense when a LSU player hit a game winning shot at Rupp earlier this year. My question to him was that if this player was good enough to be on the floor playing defense when the game was tied with <10" to play, then why wasn't he good enough to play more than 3' over the entire game? I'm not saying a zone is always a good option, but to never consider it regardles of the strengths/weaknesses of their opponent is just plain short-sighted. Shoot, in his first year here he started a walk-on at forward for just about every game of the season. He then proceeded to pull him within the first five minutes and he never reentered the game. What logic is in that? It's kind of like Bobby Knight at Indiana. When he's winning big weird behavior is considered eccentric and endears him to the fans. When he's losing over ten games and making early exits in the tournament year after year that same behavior gets him fired.

He's got a good class coming in next year and if Patterson & Meeks return they could find themselves with one of the more talented rosters in the nation. However, very little of that talent is at point guard. Their best one is better suited to being a back-up 2-guard. They had two newcomers this year that are too big and slow to be effective against the speed other SEC teams put at the point and would be better suited to play the 2 or 3. Right now there does not appear to be a better option for them next year.

2010 will be even more frustrating for Cat fans when they see their team again lose games to teams with less talent because they can't keep from turning the ball over 15-20x/game. Turnovers have been UK's biggest problem since Gillispie arrived and if it still isn't fixed by year three, then I'd say Billy Clyde had better update his resume. The big knock on Tubby-one I didn't necessarily agree with-was that he didn't recruit enough elite players. Well, in today's game elite players rarely stay at college for more than three years, so even if Tubby had left a roster full of studs, they would all be gone by year four anyway.

Cash money here for the 1st half... Looking to cash 2nd half -1.5 and for the game.

Home court is huge and will make the difference. UK is a good defensive team, they are just inept on offense and turns the ball over too much. They have too much height for UNLV though and should pound them eventually.

great call. Looks like the cats have really packed it in. Cya Gillespie. UNLV is wiping the floor with those sorry kittens.

Give me a break. You guys are worse than us down here in georgia when we lose 3 football games in a season. Fire the coach! We suck! This is an abomination! Give Gillespie a chance to get his players in there before you fire him after 2 whole seasons.

not to defend OTW, but UNLV should have mopped the floor with them. Worst game I've seen UNLV play
