It's the old slight of hand trick, misdirection. How does it work?
Almost everybody will focus most of their attention on games that have overnight lines. But, I think most of us will overlook some games that don't have overnight lines from time to time. I've done it many times and I've kicked myself for missing obvious plays. I fell for the misdirection.
The LVSC will use the most flimsy excuses sometimes to keep from putting out an overnight line. They're so flimsy that they're like a joke. Check out the situation with the Orlando/Utah game:
NO OVERNIGHT LINE
Turkoglu Questionable
That has to be a flat out joke. He's worth probably half a point on the line. I mean, Wallace is questionable for Detroit and that didn't stop the LVSC from putting out the line on the Pistons' game. Wallace is a very important player who has an impact on every game he plays.
The Indiana/Toronto excuse has me cracking up:
NO OVERNIGHT LINE
Granger Doubtful
Bargnani Questionable
Bargnani is another guy that's worth half a point and everybody knows Granger isn't playing.
This is clear misdirection. Don't let them fool you.
Some will say that the LVSC wouldn't do this because they don't know who's gonna win. Read the article below, they absolutely think they know who's gonna win most games and after following them for years, I think they're usually right:
"Oh, they got ripped," said Coach when UNLV was given a low-ish No. 7 seed. … "Butler will be the first 5-seed to go down," said White when the matchup with No. 12 Old Dominion was announced. … "That's a win for Niagara," said White when Niagara was scheduled to play Florida A&M in the play-in game. … "I'm shocked they got in," when Texas Tech is named a No. 10 seed. … "[Boston College] and Texas Tech -- both of those teams are so weak," said Coach of the first-round matchup. … "Syracuse, they should have been in," said Coach when the committee ignored the Orange.
