A unit is when someone chooses to bet a certain amount per bet.

The term "unit" keeps the dollar amount discreet when posting plays.

Let's say you bet $50 a game, your unit is $50. So when you would post plays and say the following:

      Boston - 1 unit ($50)
      Orlando - 5 units ($250)
      Phoenix - 2 units ($100)

      etc

I bet $10 per game so 1 unit for me is $10

When people post they are up 3 units, they might not like to reveal how much they bet per game, so they say 3 units. If I posted I am up 3 units, that would mean I'm up $30.

Because it's all percentages... A unit could be $10, $100, $500, $1,000, $33.33, whatever is your average bet. A normal $100 unit bet may be too much for someone but may be too little for someone else so it's best to use units to show the seriousness of the play. If someone said they were betting $100, that may seem like a lot but if Bill Gates said he was betting $100 would you really think he was really capping? and that it really mattered to him?

Using units makes the money all relative... And you know they say that money is relative anyway. The more money you have the more relatives you have.

the reason for using a unit is to better compare different bettors, for instance my unit is $220 , so if we were jsut to use money and i went ...

                    20-16 for +480

while your a 10 dolalr guy so you go...

                    8-2 for +58

if we jsut used money it would be hard to compare cappers at different bankroll size bets, a unit is devised to compare cappers and keep how much you bet discreet

Units are much better than dollars because units are relative. Someone with a $20,000 bankroll may be betting $500 per game while more recreational bettors may bet $50 per game. Units puts everyone on equal ground.

                                This is a good question.

Units are good way to keep up with your tally without giving away how much money you bet. Which, I don't bother doing since I don't mind saying I'm a small time bettor who can usually win consistently.

Why would anyone worry about giving away how much money they bet when they are an anonymous poster in an internet forum
