i work loss prevention for a major retailer and i arrest people almost every shift. he actually wasnt stopped at publix, he got picked up at home because a worker got his plate. he never would of got out of my store.

absolutely not. lets say a shoplifter gets away from me...it does happen sometimes, i obviously follow him to his car and get his plate. if it comes back good, an arrest warrant will be issued for retail fraud 1, 2 or 3, depending on what the dollar amount is, and he will be picked up by local police at his residence.

i dont even know if loss prevention was there at publix when winston stole, but where i work, we dont fukk around.

i work loss prevention, which is a special department within the store. we wear plain clothes so shoppers dont know who we are. you are correct about the employees...they will be fired on the spot for attempting to stop a shoplifter or even going outside to try and get a plate. this is all to protect the store from litigation. only loss prevention can approach and apprehend a shoplifter. i have no idea who got winstons plate, but if a regular employee followed winston, they will probably be fired. a plate being "good" means its the actual plate that belongs to the correct owner and type of car its on. a lot of thief's will put on a stolen or dealer plate on their car so when we run it, it comes back to a different car so we cant identify the subject.
