#14I'm back to mostly lurking on the forum again. This place had its hey-day last year, now it's on the inevitable down-cycle of an enterprise that thinks it has to evolve to stay competitive. What made the SBR Forum competitive was its no-holds-barred manner of loose moderation, allowing for zany banter from the most diverse set of personalities one can see assembled outside of a psychiatric hospital.
Now any thread with provocative discussion material gets sent to the PZ in seconds. SBR John no longer stands by his original model for running this place, and whoever is now responsible for calling the shots is doing a patently lousy job. Last year when I became an active poster, I truly felt that this place had a chance to beat Covers.com as the most visited sports gambling site on the Internet. I thought I was contributing to one of the most vibrant online communities in existence. But with the changes that have been made over the last few months, that's now a pipe dream. I wish it weren't so, but there's no denying it...

#21You know, I was opposed to it when the subject was first broached, but I wouldn't mind seeing that sub-forum for videos given a shot. I think it might be a first step to returning Players Talk to the site of the witty repartee which brought a lot of us posters to SBR in the first place. In fact, since there is a picks sub-forum, let's get all the "Today's Card" type threads moved exclusively there while we're at it. When BBD was here the new thread volume was sufficient to keep those threads from overwhelming PT, but now we're swamped with them. PT should be for conversation amongst posters, not for an incessant deluge of people and posts trying to see if they can turn tout. What do you guys think? Something needs to be done before there's an exodus of all the quality posters to some other site.

#23Well, I can't argue with that, the ball was dropped months ago with seemingly zero notice paid by management. I gave my ideas, return to the original no-holds-barred model instituted by SBR_John and clear the videos and personal picks threads to the appropriate sub-forums. What would you do if the reigns of SBR Forum were handed over to you, Pavy?

#25I like your forum video idea and the picks forum idea is good too. About a year or more ago I suggested a jjgold forum to get rid of the junk clutter on Players Talk and I was told by the SBR management geniuses if I don't like a thread don't read it. The problem is 95% of the threads in PT I don't like because of all the jjgold and others crap and most of the serious handicappers felt the same at that time and this is why you see them all except a few like Iwinyourmoney, TPowell stay but most of them are history now. SBR mortgaged their future on jjgold last year and failed miserably and this is why you see the PT turned into a high school cafeteria instead of a handicappers lounge.Comment -

#26I guess you and I have differing ideas as to what would return PT to its former glory. I think JJ is just fine, you really can't fault him for welcoming the new uber-young college demographic, he's pretty universally welcoming to new posters. I'm sure you remember when I moved from lurker to poster back in August and JJ was a key factor in turning me into a regular poster with his messages of encouragement and welcome. I think JJ is an integral part of this place and moving him into his own sub-forum would be a huge mistake.
My thought is serious handicapping discussions are best left to the sports specific sub-forums. I thought PT was at its height when there were an equal mix of practical handicapping methodology threads and social banter. Kind of an everyman's Think Tank in the setting of a sports pub. What they've allowed it to morph into though is more of a karaoke bar, where every three minutes another bad performer attempts to hold the spotlight as long as possible. It's pitiful and I hope it's more than just us that see it that way.

#29Well, JJ's far more than a greeter, but I see the point you're trying to make. It's true that the actual content on SBR is far below what it used to be, and I think you have to look at the lost posters to isolate the cause. You can have all the Lochette's and VegasDave's you want making videos, but SBR was strongest when it had a stable of posters for whom the written word was an artform. That's the most grievous loss I see this place having taken. The caliber of the posts have taken a major hit, and it's hard to get those people back once they leave. That's why I wanted to see if turning PT into a more classic text-oriented forum would have an impact.

#31It's not like you contribute anything to this place, Curious. You're either posting picks or saying you're going to kill someone. You should pay more attention to your stripper wife or go polish your Israeli medals or something. Leave the posting to people with talent and just use your spreadsheet.

#33I'm not even a handicapper, I've got enough on my plate to even consider turning gambling into a stream of income. I'm just here to ogle all the hot gambling dudes on here and have a few laughs. Sorry that we can't all be as all-knowing as you, F0cker. But then you'd leave because you'd have no one to talk your smug, condescending schtick to on here. So you see, I'm really doing you a favor by sticking around and letting you tell me I don't know shit. How's about a thank you one of these days?
