What do you think of Players who give praise and glory to "GOD"

after winning a game? Personally I think it is ridiciulous...

I remember when my Rams won the Superbowl and they interviewed Warner after the game and all he talked about was GOD and was praising God for helping him with the victory..

So answer this, It's ok to thank and praise God when you win, but not ok to blame God for losing?

I would love to see a QB who threw a last minute INT that went the other way to cost his team victory say "I blame God for this loss, I hate God"

I am not against Religion or bashing anyone who worships God, all I am saying is I feel there is double standards here and I strongly believe God's Power has never effected a sporting event.. EVER...

Brings to mind several things.

One of my favorite “God” sports quotes was after a college football game many years ago. Brock Huard, I believe it was, attributed his team’s victory to God’s intervention, stating that he actually “saw God place the ball in my receiver’s hands” on the winning touchdown pass.

This intrigued me, because he wasn’t just saying that God in some vague and mysterious way was behind the victory, and that he knew this through faith. No, he was talking about an actual physical event that he watched happen with his own eyes.

So what did he see? I’ve always wondered that. Did he see a giant hand descend and carry the ball to the receiver? Was it just that the path of the ball altered dramatically on a windless day as if an invisible force were guiding it to the receiver? I don’t think he ever clarified this.

Another one is, you know that most athletes, if pressed, will admit that God doesn’t prefer one sports team to another, but will say that they still feel an urge to express a generalized gratitude to God for anything good that happens in their life. One time, though, Randall Cunningham was asked this question, and he replied that absolutely God prefers some teams to others and will see to it that those teams win.

Which teams does God root for, you ask? According to Mr. Cunningham, he rigs the games in favor of the teams he knows (clairvoyantly, presumably) will “give him the glory” when they win.

So God gets off on all the praise and rewards those who suck up the most.

Lastly, never forget that God doesn’t just intervene in sporting events but can inject himself into pretty much any situation. For example, many years ago, Pat Robertson (whose religion holds that all human beings past, present, and future other than their particular subset of Protestantism will, deservedly, be kept conscious and tortured and made to suffer in unimaginably horrible ways for eternity by a loving God) led his followers in prayer as a hurricane wound its uncertain way possibly toward the southeast United States. As it turned out, this particular hurricane missed the US, causing a great deal of death and destruction on some Caribbean islands instead.

According to Reverend Robertson, this was because the folks praying in the US were of the correct religion, whereas the bulk of the casualties on the Caribbean islands were Catholics.

it depends on how far they go.

i remember when trot nixon hit the homer against the a's in 03 and afterwards said God wanted the red sox to win tonite, i was wondering what the a's pitcher harden thought. a person who didnt understand the power of evoking god when achieving a great victory would have assumed trot was mentally ill. i cant imagine how many rapes, murders, violent robberies and deadly car crashes were happening around the world when trot was hitting that homerun yet he believes that god played a role in it.

in fact i wondered why even play the game. trot could have called up the a's and said dont bother showing up.

while sports and god have always been linked it really started during the cold war. we had to find another way to fight the godless communists around that time we also added one nation under god during the pledge of allegiance and i believe we changed our currency to include in god we trust.

one way to keep it all in perspective is to remember pat tillman who never beat his chest and point to the sky when he made a great play. he wasnt very religious and his brother said he didnt believe in god. if he is burning in hell id be happy to join him there.
