How Many Of You Are Actually Sports Fans?
I'm sure most of you were at first, but do you still love sports, or is it all about the action (or in some cases, the profit)?

I know some are in the middle of these two extremes, but which fits you better?
    30
Yes I am! I'd still love sports even if I didn't bet on them.

No, I'm not; really don't care unless there is something riding on it.

Who in the world would be sports betting if they weren't interested in sports to begin with?

I watched sports before I bet and liked them so I was and still a fan of players and teams. My father liked sports so I grew up with it and of course he gambled o them. I can watch a game without money on it real easy and enjoy.

There was a time when I lost interest in a lot of events unless having action, but thankfully I was able and reverse that and now enjoy the games once again just for the games. I was worried for awhile if I could ever get back to loving the games w/out action.

I always loved sports. Thing with gambling is I no longer have favourite teams. I miss the days of rooting on a team out of something other than having money on them.

i too used to love sports as a kid and now, it's all business. i really miss crying real tears when my team and how i was soooooooo happy when my team won.. i am way less happy now when i win a huge bet as i was when i was 9 and my team won.. and i was way way more depressed when i was a kid and my team lost than i am now when i lose a humungous bet.

it's very sad, but that's what gambling has done to my life. i wish i can be a kid again and cheer for my favorite team.. it was so intense and so fun back then, unlike today.

I need an in-between option for the poll. I am not nearly the sports fan I once was. I have no interest in watching games I have bets on. I don't have favorite teams (except for Canada in international competition).

I occasionally try to watch a big game just because it is a big game - like maybe the NCAA tournament final is being hyped or there is an interesting angle on a World Series game - I will usually start channel flipping within 3 minutes.

But there are just a few sports I watch for their own sake. One is curling - which is just entering prime season right now with the Brier (Canadian men's championship) starting yesterday. I like the Sunday of the golf majors. I watch some NFL football even without bets. I get into the Olympics and am looking forward to the Winter games in Vancouver next Feb. very much.

But my general feeling is I am not a sports fan.

Nicky, don't you bet the Habs every game? That would allow you to cheer on a team unconditionally.

                          sickler,

if i were to win 19 straight habs bets the rest of the way and sweep the playoffs and win the CUP and i bet 2k on each game also, i still wouldn't be 2% as happy as i was when i was a little kid and seeing Laflleur skating down the wing and scoring a great goal to advance to the finals and then win teh cup. and if i lose 20 straight habs bets for 2k each today, i won't even be 1% as sad as i was when the habs would lose in OT to be eliminated from the playoffs when i was 6 or 8 or even 11 yrs old...

sports to me is no longer what it once was when you were a kid. you cried and you screamed in joy with your heart for your team, unlike today where it's all just business.

                            Nicky, I hear ya.

I was a huge Islanders fan. I idolized Bossy, Trottier, Potvin and the boys.

I was a sports fan first and it comes first for me.

Gambling is a side activity that came well after I started following sports.

I enjoy men's more but the women's can be interesting. Kind of like NCAA hoops. They don't have the skills of the pros but the competition can still be good. The Canadian women's championships just wrapped up and defending world champion Jennifer Jones will be representing us at the world's again.

Git yer curling news here folks!

Gambling has definitely hurt my love of sports. I still love the games for the passion of the players, but it doesn't mean as much to me as it did before I started gambling.

It's really satisfying to watch an NFL game, I love the sport itself, the ups and downs, parody etc, but ultimately I'm not a 'sports homer'. I don't care which team drafts who really, finding value as a bettor exceeds any sports feel-goods.

Football and Nascar are the only ones I am actually a fan of. About the only basketball I watch is the Nuggets which has been the case for quite a while outside of the occasional espn game I decide to watch. Basketball and baseball are almost strictly about trying to win (mostly lose) money.
