    Mexico -2.5
I'm on Mexico -2.5 v. Australia. Australia went 0-3 in the last WBC and they have only 6 major league players. Mexico is loaded with talent but what impresses me most is what they did to Brandon Webb last week. Webb allowed 6 runs, 5 earned, 4 hits and a home run in one inning and a third against Mexico. http://scores.espn.go.com/mlb/boxscore?gameId=290304129

It's just Spring training but I don't remember Webb being shelled like that before.

Plus, Mexico is playing at home.

If I'm not mistaken, Webb gets shelled every Spring Training.

    But good luck!

      I'm looking that up.

        Webb's spring training stats

        2008 7.90 ERA
        2007 1.64 ERA
        2006 6.35 ERA
        2005 5.88 ERA
        2004 4.10 ERA
        2003 1.29 ERA

Giving up 5 runs in one and a third innings is still much worse than these numbers. That's a 40.99 ERA. Mexico roughed up Webb far worse than I've seen or what he's done in past Springs.

My point is simply not to put much weight into that.

The elite pitchers in the game aren't worried about spring training and they certainly aren't worried about their roster spots. Webb isn't going into a Spring Training session looking to win; he's looking to loosen up and try out some new pitches.

Webb's career ERA in Spring training is less than 5, Mexico roughed him up for a 40+ ERA. It's considerable and relevant, imho. It's impressive to me but you're free to your own opinions of course.

I like Australia in this game. This is what Peter Moylan told me last night.

You are entitled to your opinion as well.

I'm not disagreeing with your Mexico pick... I just think that basing your pick on the allure of Brandon Webb isn't a great idea in spring training. But either way, best of luck.
