Guys,
I have been on SBR for 2 years now. My join date may not refelct that, as I am more of a lerker than a poster. I enjoy reading the thoughts/angles of others to add to the criteria I look at when capping a game. Especially valuable is local knowledge. For example, former poster Baba O'Riley was money on his Spurs picks and Brock Landers has provided solid info on Illinois and Northwestern in the past. Chi Archie seems to be connected to Pitt although he is in Chicago, etc. Rarely do I post but today I want to share a play with the board that I think will cash by halftime.
The 4th ranked Maryland Terrapins play the Wake Forest Demon Deacons today in Greensboro in a 2nd round game of the women's ACC Tournament. The Terps had a first round bye yesterday while the 9th seeded Deacons surprised an emotionally wrecked NC St team 59-54 yesterday in round 1 action. For brevity's sake, I will list info below as backup for my play. Please give this play consideration, as I believe it will be cashed by halftime.
-Maryland has won 18 of their last 20 games. 3 of 4 losses this season came on the road to ranked opponents. The 4th loss was at unranked TCU in their first game of the year.
-Maryland jockeying for position as a 1 seed and controls own destiny.
-Maryland leads the ACC in scoring margin at +10.9 (all stats conference games only). Wake is 9th at -6.4.
-Maryland averages 82.4 ppg, WFU 60.8.
-Maryland leads the league in FG, FT and 3 Pt%
-WFU is 12th, 11th and 7th, respectively.
-Maryland won the first meeting Jan 8, 92-65. They scored the games first 20 points, led 46-28 at the half and went on a 21-6 run to put the game away early in the 2nd half. Since that game, Maryland has gone 12-2 and WFU 7-8.
-Maryland has won the last 7 in a row in the series and leads 48-12 overall (I dont put much stock into this; different players/different seasons).
-Yesterday was the first ACC Tournament win for Wake since 2005 and playing close to home in Greensboro I am sure they got their share of atta-girls. Look for them to come out flat.
-One of Wake's key guards is out for the game and they have only 6 players that play over 10 mins. I question how well they will hold up against a team like Maryland that forces tempo.
-I live in Charlotte and have seen both teams play on TV. Maryland is a machine and actually plays watchable, entertaining basketball and is fundamentally sound. Wake, on the other hand, makes everything look difficult and at times you would question how any of these girls are on scholarship.
I will take any jokes that come may come my way about capping a womens game but let's face it, the lines are not as sharp on this action and there are "spots" where you can play with a large advantage.
My play is Maryland -11 (5Dimes).
