Watchmen, by the way, had a $55 million opening. 177 million total gross.

I am with you Capy. I liked Star Trek the best on that list. I've only seen about 5 of them though. I'm not a blockbuster kind of guy.

I saw the 60 Minutes feature on James Cameron and Avatar. I don't really like the looks of it, to be honest. Just kinda looked creepy to me. But I suspect we'll start getting some pretty intense hype pretty soon and who knows if I'll get caught up in it.

I think they said it cost like $400 million to make and market (?!?!?!) It better have a good opening.

I was pretty shocked when I finally saw the Avatar trailer the other night, after all I'd heard about JC devoting more or less his life and 857 gazillion dollars or whatever to that movie! The main characters look ridiculous!!!

I don't care how much you spend on the animation; if the characters look dumb/goofy/unrealistic/childish, you've lost your adult audience. Or maybe I'm wrong.

I'm with you, though -- not typically a blockbuster fan, as they tend to appeal to the mass audience/lowest common denominator. But Star Trek was awesome; J.J. Abrams knows what the f--k he is doing.

What do you think Capybara? Have you changed your thinking about Avatar?

The more I hear and see, the more interested I become. I don't think I'll go see it opening weekend but I feel myself kinda getting sucked in.
