Sean Avery - Who claims him?
So Avery is officially on waivers. Who is going to claim him? I bet a team out of the playoffs (and who placed low in last years end of season standings) will grab him first. Maybe Toronto? I think if his head is clear that he would fit in nicely on the Leafs. He's from Pickering which is just up the road. Should be interesting to see who claims him.

    No one.

He is a locker room cancer and a PR nightmare.

Apparently he is on the meds and doing very well Dave. Maybe he ends back in L.A.

That could very well happen Wild Willy, but I think someone will claim him. They'd get him at a bargain basement price. If his head is now screwed on straight and he stays on his meds then this guys can consistently get you 20 - 25 goals and provide some energy/toughness to any team.

One thing for sure no one playoff bound will wan't this kind of distraction in the locker room or where ever they go. And teams that are out don't wan't extra scoring to ruin draft pick hopes

what if he is no longer a distraction? When it comes to bottom feeding teams, I don't think having Sean Avery in the lineup is going to be a huge difference maker in terms of final standings, but you do make a valid point. As I've said, a bottom feeding team may sign him for their "future" since he is signed for an additional 3 years.

With salary caps and no trade clauses every where its sad we have to discusse this loser. But with all the restrictions I don't see a hell of a lot happening sure maybe one or two shockers thats it.
It won'y happen but love to see montreal pick up vinney from tampa .
Montreal has the cap room to sign this guy long term some thing a lot of teams can't do
And montreal has a lot of depth in their farm system.
Eithier Koivu or Kovelev won't get signed or both Montreal will not over pay for there services just ask Souray

As long as my team doesn't claim him I don't care. If you want guys who are tough to play against there are better options. He's a third liner who thinks he is a star, nothing worse than that.

Cut Avery some slack. They guy was mentally sick when he acted up the last 3-4 years. The league and NHLPA should have stepped in long ago and got him the help he needed. Last year and this year was proof that he was mentally unstable, but Gary and the NHLPA didn't do anything because they needed any kind of PR be it good or bad. It worked!!!

Koivu is done. He is hated in the dressing room. That's right he is hated by his teammates. Kovalev will be resigned. Tampa would never get rid of Vinny because no one would attend the games and season ticket holders (mostly Snowbird Canadians) would likely not renew.

He's a pretty damn 3rd liner element. One of the best really.

I agree he is a very good third liner, but I just don't think he is worth the hassle. The best option for all involved is for him to go somewhere irrelevant media-wise, maybe Phoenix, Atlanta, or Nashville.

If his head is all fixed up and he takes his meds then this would be a steal of a deal.

Send him to Ottawa so he and Ruutu can have the ultimate agitator line

Completely agree. If Avery stays out of trouble, someone could be getting a great deal.

                                    Great deal absoulutly right.
Acts like a jerk and costs you in the playoffs.Nows its your ass that could be out of work and looking to get signed.
Signing this guy is like playing with fire.

The problem is (and I can tell you this from experience as a Kings fan), the league hates the guy so he gets a penalty called on him every time he touches a guy.

Talentwise he's a great skater, great agitator, and an excellent 3rd liner, but he has proven time and time again that he is a terrible guy on and off the ice. Sorry but I'm not buying the "he's on medication so its okay" story.

In the locker room he was known to make fun of (not playfully, mean to the point where it started fights) Dustin Brown's lisp, among other things. You really want a guy that trashes his own teammates in the locker room?

He has talent but the baggage that comes with it is not worth it. Terrible locker room guy, every team that has had him has attested to this.

Avery with 2 goals today and 4 overall with the Rangers. Playing a great game today. Looking like a great move by the Rangers to bring him back. Just needs to keep his head on straight. So far so good though.
