How do I become a winner like some of you?
    Hi!

I'm not new to sportsbetting but I haven't yet figured out how to be on + side.

My questions to you cappers out there. What is your best tip to get an edge? Is it to watch a lot of games? Grind stats? Flipping a coin?

It depends on your skills and type betting you want to do.
I am more like a stats guy. Looking for patterns and trends.
But there is no guarantee for having a positive balance.

Alright! But do you watch the games as well or do you just go for stats? thing is the games for me are going in the middle of the night. So wondering if I can bet only on stats or if I somehow have to watch the games?

flip a coin? - i hope that was a joke

Yes watch as much of the sport you want to bet on as you can.

Don't get hung up on box scores/ stats.

Disect individual matchups. See if you can determine a bad matchup for a certain player or team.

There is no clear cut way to win you just have to get a "feel" for it.

Never bet just to have action and never be biased.

Understand variance and bankroll management. Expect a lot of losses. Accept the fact that you are likely to be one of the 99% of players that are losers. Understand that the odds are against you. Remember that the bookie has the edge. You must hit over 52% of the time on a classic spread (odds 11 to win 10) to break even, but the problem is that both sides offer the same odds. That means that there could be a 50/50 49/51 48/52... Etc, chance that either side will hit. You want to bet on the sides that you think have a greater chance to hit than their odds dictate. This is extremely hard to do! Be humble and be patient. A bad bet is not always a loser, and a good bet is not always a winner. Practice is the only way to know if what you're doing is right or not. Everybody handicaps differently. Find something you think works for you and keep practicing it. If it reaps profits then keep doing it. If you keep losing over a long period of time (100 bets is nothing, 1000 would give you a good idea of where you stand) then look for something else. The only way to win is to work hard and to be disciplined. You need both to win and you won't necessarily win if you do both.

the best way to learn anything is by trial and error. Why dont you just start with small wagers ... that way learning won't be expensive for you.

But the best thing to do is trust your instincts and have
confidence/ conviction in your picks. Never second guess yourself.

Just lie to everyone and act like you're making money. When I go to the track, I carry $2K and tell everyone I have $500. At the end of the day I may only have $1000 left, but everyone thinks I made a profit. simple. Works the same way when you go see your bookie.

#1 tip. Do not watch games with emotion attached or you will get burned. Leads to tilting and bad money management very quickly. What will happen will happen regardless.
