Did you know that the singer Beyonce has an alter-ego called Sasha Fierce? I saw a little feature on it. She wants to call herself Sasha Fierce sometimes. It relates to her stronger, more aggressive - more fierce, get it? - side.

Apparently Beyonce has thought about herself so much - and how she is so extraordinary as to actually have more than one personality element - that it started making sense to be more than one person. Or at least to make pretend. Creating the Sasha Fierce alter-ego is an elaborate and complex metaphor from the deep-thinking and terribly important Beyonce.

Can it be long before Beyonce is releasing Dark Side of the Moon type albums?


My point: I could NOT care less about self-absorbed celebs with their heads up their own asses in general, and I definitely could not care less about Sasha Fierce.

betplom does actually seem sharp enough that he could be being intentionally ironic. But I can only imagine the blank stare I would get if I tried to explain it to my buddy's Hannah Montana-watching teenage daughter.

It's like someone saying, I didn't see nothing. It is wrong but the meaning is understood. Gobbledy-gook becomes part of the vernacular.

Ah, the old could care less/couldn't care less debate. Seems a bit trivial to me and a bit like the old debate whether or not the new millenium started Jan 1, 2000 or Jan 1, 2001. People without a clue as to how many times the calendar had been manipulated up to that point had some very strong, stubborn feelings about the whole deal. Personally, I could care less about it.

Saying you could care less about yadda-yadda-yadda is correct in my book. After all, you care enough to at least say you don't really care, and as the graph above points out, if you care one little bit then you could indeed care less.

I agree with you, but I think the point is that the phrase's roots are in the sarcastic. It is plainly obvious that it is the opposite of what's meant (even if people don't think about it when they say it), so there is no point on picking on someone who uses it in that way, even if they don't use the correct intonation in their voice to convey the sarcasm.

I don't know. To me it does feel different than something like "begs the question" where probably 98% of people who use that phrase have no idea what it literally means (even if they think about it), and so it is perhaps more deserving of being criticized. The origination of that phrase is as a result of pure stupidity rather than people being funny.

The thing that gets me is some of the stuff that happens in court with respect to people not understanding the meaning of what they are saying.

Example: a lawyer asks a witness on the stand, "Is it not true that you murdered your boss?"

Witness: No!



The witness, who is under oath, has just confessed to murder. But no one including the lawyer and the judge understands the meaning of anything.

I've seen this many times. Not just on Law and Order but real court proceedings. I can understand Britney and Paris being haphazard in their use of language between snapping their gum, but I kind of expect a higher standard in court. But no.

Kobe hates Shaq and always will, for the how does my butt taste rap (among others) and Shaq will always hate Kobe for outting his affairs with groupies.
