I didn't follow hockey until about 95-96ish so I'm missing out on who may have dominated early on. I was going to take a shot in the dark with Yzermon, Forsberg,Lindros, guys I knew who produced in the late nineties but no go.

yeah, I kinda forgot about Gretzky after that run in 1993, but he still had 92 assists in 1993-94.

I didn't look it up, so though i was pretty confident it was Stastny i wasn't 100% certain. The guy was a great player and never quite received his due simply because he played in the Gretzky, Lemieux era and wasn't from this side of the pond.
