    What constitutes "Classic Rock"
I took the wife out on valentines night to Palm Springs. A little dinner, dancing and gaming.

We go to the club which is promoting "Classic Rock". The band played a set of 80's stuff. And during the break the D.J. played non-stop, LOUD, 20 minutes of hip-hop?

Which part of classic did I miss?

Were you listening closely to the hip-hop? A lot of those songs are "remixes" of great old classic rock songs... maybe that was their theme or gimmick that night.

If the original band members wore bell bottoms and/or smoked really bad leafy pot, its classic rock.

No they wore slacks and played Beyonce? It was strange watching 50 year olds dance to songs they didn't freaking know. Down with remixes except "Walk This Way.

The days of Strawberry Alarm Clock and Grass Roots have passed us by, Bob. Kids these days just don't seem to want to sit around and watch Sing Along with Mitch!

Doesn't EVERY band know "Gloria" or "Louie Louie"? I thought was a prerequisite to taking the stage. "Proud Mary", anything by KC and the Sunshine Band?

This is true about inappropriate remixes. I remember when the movie 54 came out someone released a disco version of Gordon Lightfoot's, If You Could Read My Mind, which is getting into some pretty sacred territory for me.

First time I heard it I just started screaming and couldn't stop until my eyes had popped out of their sockets and were dangling upon my cheeks.

No sir, I didn't care for it.

That's bad. You gotta' leave the poets alone. What's next? Lil' Wayne doing a hip-hop rendition of the "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald". I agree Mudcat, Don't mess with the good stuff!

Whats worse is when my hip-hop fan buddies would hop in the car with me and I'd be listening to ARROW 93.1 (Used to be a solid Classic Rock station in LA, got converted to Jack FM a few years ago), and they'd hear something like Dream On and say "oooh, thats where Eminem got that from!"

Arrow was A great station. Jack FM is just okay. And it's true what you say about those who don't have any musical knowledge beyond say 1995. Too funny.

My dad went to high school with Billy Joel, they were good friends... so I was raised on classic rock.

I like Jack FM actually... Just wish it had taken over something other then my favorite station.

Then again, now that I'm in Texas, I have to learn all the stations out here and find new ones. Jack is the only one I've found out here.

Working at KIIS FM back in Cali, I heard the hip hop crap every shift. Some of it is okay, but its no classic rock

the 2 rock stations around here who advertise as classic rock, used to be 79' and under, but now one of them has been playing 80's hair metal for a while.

Hard to believe it is 2009 already... early 80's was almost 30 years ago.

If 60s and 70s were considered classic rock in the 90s, no reason parts of the 80's can't be in the 2010s.

The 80s will always be remembered for its sappy synthesized love songs though. Loved that stuff too.

The 80's are not classic rock. They are as you guessed it called the 80's. And the 90's are called grunge.
