Young with no managerial experience. Not sure I like this.

Given the bums they were considering and the shallow pool of the market, I can't say I'm disappointed.

Not sure who I would've gone with instead.

Alan Trammell or Kirk Gibson were the obvious choices.

Tramm was already the manager during one of their dreadful seasons about a decade ago when he was nowhere near ready.

Gibby's an ape. No thanks. Loved him as a player, but not as a manager.

Hard to hire icons from your own organization. If they crash and burn the franchise, it's an awkward exit to say the least.

That's right, I forgot about Trammell already being there. Was he the manager during their one horrendous season? I believe 2003. They were like 1962 Mets bad.

                Yep. Thrown to the wolves.

Wonder what Sweet Lou Whitaker's doing these days?

Just read an article from Richard Justice, who called it a "spectacularly smart" hire.

Seems like a big risk to me, but Dombrowski isn't stupid. He knows what he's doing. I'm just glad it's not some washed-up moron like Lamont or Dusty.

                    Gibson would of been good

Detroit has good pitching so they will ways be good no matter who is the manager

i think its a great hire. hes an ivy league guy so hes certainly no dummy, and being not that far removed from his playing days is definitely advantages. shit...leyland wasnt even good enough to play in the big leagues.
