Stock traders who bet sports vs. Bettors who trade stocks
I have to think many guys who trade stocks professionally
also have a few dollars in action on sports...

Yet it seems most guys who bet sports like maniacs
are often clueless or disinterested in the financial markets?

Stocks can be just as much a rush the difference you don't lose all the money in 3hrs

The majority of options market makers that I know bet sports as well. I certainly wouldn't classify your average broker in that category, however. Options are high risk, high reward. There is certainly a correlation between the two. Your suit and tie broker sitting at a desk at Merrill Lynch doesn't fit that category. They simply push the stocks that they are told to push on their clients, doing very little in the way of their own research and taking very little risk. So I suppose it would depend specifically on the type of trader...

I would agree with this 100%. I really think that most people like to get their asses handed to them. I have tried to help people with the wsex interactives - trading just like the futures market with strategies and nothing to do with handicapping. I gave up trying to convince people here, but not so surprising I have brought a lot of futures traders/stock brokers over to wsex.
