That would be earth-shattering to the world of baseball for a few reasons.

      1. Hes "the" Ironman. The guy played more games that 99% of players will ever....and he did them in a row and at a high level of performance.

      2. It opens up a can of worms on 80's/ early 90's baseball which has been left pretty much untouched from the whole steriods era.

I think amphetamines and things like ephedrine are a bigger deal for MLB then steroids....

I bet that the majority of players were on greenies, just to try and keep up with the wear and tear of playing everyday and the travel.

someone wrote a book way back when, talking about it openly.... some pitcher can't recall his name.... and he got black-balled from mlb stuff due to it....

                          its very true 3pt...

press never talked about Mantle's carousing and drinking...and didn't talk alot about his injuries, because he asked them not to..

same for a lot of players Alcohol problems....

heck..same can be said for President/press relations... no one talked about Kennedy and his women back then....

If you go back in baseball history a lot of the press were the ones out drinking and carousing with the players. Many gentlemen agreements about what not to report were made.

To be honest I think all this news has gone to far. My favorite Sports Center guy was Charlie Steiner, he gave you the highlights straight, no bullshit and didn't try to make himself the show. I cant stand SC anymore, with all their gimmicks, and stupid polls.

Wouldn't surprise me a bit if Ripken had used them at some point in his career. Also wouldn't bother me a bit. He'd still rank as one of the game's best along with Bonds, Clemens, Alex Rodriguez, et al. I've said it before and I will say it until I move on from this world: The crime was that players used them, the crime was how long it took to get it cleaned up.

Willie, it took so long to clean it up because both the players and owners were making money, they had to incentive to clean the game up..

Gaylord Perry, a known spitballer, is in the hall of fame. Pete Rose (who didnt cheat in baseball as far as anyone knows) will never be. Interesting things to think about as some of the steroid age players are up for hall of fame votes. I think it would be sweet if someone got in to the hall of fame and then admitted to performance enhancing drug uise

i started this discussion in another thread....

IMO opinion cheating in the actual game...is worse then gambling on it....as long as you weren't betting against your team, or involved in point shaving/tanking kinda things...

trying to get an unfair advantage via roids, or scuffing, or bat corking is no-where near as a big of a deal as gambling as far as MLB is concerned and that seems a bit off..

if you did what that blacksox did.... ban those 9 guy...including Joe jackson cuz he took money and didn't blow the whistle...

if you did what pete rose did, ban him from ever managing or working for a team again... but let him in the hall..
