Can someone explain hockey line for me?

Capitals moneyline tonight is -170 but for capitals to win in the first 60 minutes (-.5) the line is -108.

so basically if I think Capitals win in regulation and it doesnt go to overtime then im getting .62 cents lower on the line? That seems like insane value..or am i wrong on this.

yep your right. However I'm not sure about the exact number but the % of hockey games that go to OT is alot higher than you would expect

I don`t geht what`s so special. According to the Odds the Caps should win about 55% of matches in reg. time. If you`re taking ML they have to win about 70% in reg. time or OT.
Sounds fair but not unusual to me

people always underestimate the number of games that go to ot, and also underestimate the number of games decided by 1 goal, most guys play the -1.5 and -.5 regulation lines. but in the long run you are better off on the other side of both of those.

The -108 implies a 52% chance of winning, the -170 implies a 62% chance of winning. If the odds of going to ot are 20%, you are still better off with the -170 because the difference is 10%. If it went to ot, i would give the caps better than a 50/50 chance of winning.

the problem is that people look at the -170 and think that is a higher than 62% chance of winning, just like they look at -300 and think that is 90% chance of winning instead of the reality 75%.
