saints ran only like 40 sec, not sure of exact time off the clock. No idea why they ran the plays they did.

When dealing with a Brady, Manning or Rodgers - the rules change; you don't give them the ball back! Therefore, you pass on that third down(especially if you think your Quarterback is pretty good!

the 40 seconds run off the clock is not as valuable as the chance of that first down, so you pass.

Saints lost this for not knowing who Tom Brady is.

Basically if you foresee three unsuccessful running plays resulting in giving one of the guys the ball with more than 70 seconds left and less than 85 yards to go, you approach the drive with the thought - get a first down.

Three pass plays would have even been okay. Although you would have had to hear about it from the guys on Talk radio!
