A friend has a lot of money that he would like to move out of the US. Been hearing some Caribbean countries and south American ones, don't share info back to the US??? He's open to any country that is safe and private.

#6I assume by Mac saying that he has a lot of money, enough money that he'd like to hide it would make it substantial.
Unless he's worried about hiding $50k?Comment -

He gets caught in 98% of the other scenarios. And SBR would have to be the near the bottom of places one would look on advice for how to hide money. Unless, hiding it/giving it to your local bookie is on the table.Comment -

#17Hmmm, do you know if they report to the US? The money is legit but the guy doesn't want it associated with the US in any shape or form. Can he just open up an account at an Antiguan bank? He's looking at putting away several million dollars. He won't need much access to it as he won't use it but would like it get decent interest.

#21This would be a trust managed by a trustee. The trust may or may not pay wages to a few US beneficiaries that would then have to report that income of course. The trust may buy property or assets in the US as well.
Would the US have a way of knowing how much money is in an offshore trust in another country? Would Antigua report high dollar accounts to the US is my biggest question? Are these governments in cahoots with the US where they can seize assets or do they say FU USA? I know the US was putting pressure on the Bahamas and Switzerland a few years ago to report large transactions. I never found out the final verdict?
It is illegal by at least 1 or 2 ways, because it is personal income so you have to pay taxes or you have to report offshore personal bank accounts to the IRS now. Used to be legal to have offshore personal bank account now it is illegal unless it is reported to the IRS which defeats the purpose of a offshore bank account. A lot of rich people have illegal bank accounts or have a business overseas and use that business bank account as a personal account. If you get audited you cannot use that business bank account for personal expenses otherwise you will be in a lot of trouble. Also you have to take into account the country you are putting the money, because unless it is the Euro you can get back a lot less money or a lot more depending upon how that country's currency performs against the United States Dollar.Comment -

#26I am just saying it is illegal. I not giving advice on where to put it or how to do it. Just if you decide to do it know it is illegal and be sure you know that the country has a stable currency unlike Brazil.Comment -

#27Won't say that is such a great bet since most of the money (bitcoins) are tied to being able to buy illegal items online (drugs and other items) and the bitcoin already hit their high. At anytime any government can track the IPs on Silkroadmarketplace or any other site deep website (site accessed with TOR) now.Comment -
