sportsbetting in prison.Would it have a soothing affect?Give incentive to behave?
I don't think anyone has ever brought up this topic but I know cons in prison have access to personal ad sites where they con the hell out of naive bleeding heart women. So why not let prisoners set up online sportsbetting accounts?A guy in stir works all day for $5 and could place $5 4 team dog parlay bets and such that pay $150-$200.Maybe do some multi team parlay bets that pay$$$$$$$$.If a guy makes $5 a day in prison,he's not going to save it anyway,he's going to be buying overpriced Little Debbies in the prison store and get diabetes .

There would be alot fewer guys looking to do the nasty with each other if they could go back to the cell and listen to the games they bet on.I would be willing to bet that the guards jobs would be a hell of alot easier too.The ultimate good behavior reward, have fun betting on games and maybe have a bankroll when you get out of prison in a few years. It could teach the illiterate to read stats and become proficient at math.

The warden is the bookie in prison...

When I was in prison all sports bets had to be made with the prison bookie, the warden. The warden and the guards were far more corrupt, dishonest, and criminal types than any of the inmates could have ever dreamed of being.

They would need internet access to open accounts online.

Which US prisons offer unrestricted internet access?

I doubt any US prisons have unrestricted internet access for inmates, cons use associates on the outside to do them favours and contact women online - they can't do it themselves directly, they likely have no way of setting up an email address for themselves while serving a sentence.

Prisons have a hard enough time having to monitor mail and inmate visits, the last thing they want/need is inmates on the internet, an internet connection being used by an inmate is a serious security risk.

YOu can get anything you want in prison if you have enough money or people on the outside who can influence guards/warden with drugs/sex/money.

You can get *almost* anything, I'd be willing to wager an inmate couldn't get setup with an internet connection while doing time, no matter how much money he has.

Think about whats involved, and as mentioned in the original post, inmates don't earn much money while inside, plus many are addicts of some kind and aren't very technically saavy.

Bottom line is security, no institution would allow unrestricted internet access for inmates, it's very low on the priority list.

Having sex offenders online while serving time would cause a uproar in the US.

You don't know much about how prisons operate if you think that. There are internet connections and computers all over the prison. Guards/warden control where inmates can go. Wouldn't be a big deal.

Curious, we could go on forever about this, you can believe what you want, but what is being proposed is not practical and won't happen.

You're in a different kind of prison my friend.

There are many forms of "prison". Incarceration is only one.
