    How much is a unit?
I hate to have to post this. But this "gentlemen" in the other thread keeps telling me a unit is $100.

While infact $100 is a unit for most professionals, I tend to believe a unit is relative to your bankroll. For people posting their plays on a daily basis as a side activity/family/etc, they don't have money to bet that much per game. So if someone wants to bet $33 on a game, does he have to keep his records as .33 units lost and .3 units won?

If you need help deciding, please google:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...ng&btnG=Search (or create your own search)

BTW, this is actually a serious question because he doesn't believe me and says he has been around forever!!!

a unit is any amount u make it out to be, alot of bettors don't feel comfortable putting out there bet amount so they refer to it as unit, i always bet 220/200 on all my plays so i will say 1 unit for me is 220, if you bet 10 bucks a play ur unit is 10, its any fictional amount you make it out to be,

it is relative like you said. and it can't change from bet to bet for certain bettor's the only use a percentage of their present bankroll amount, like in martingaling....

a unit could be $21.64 $100 or $1000 or whatever...

A unit is just whatever your base bet is...If you bet to win $30 per game that would be your unit. Betting 33 to win 30 would be 1.1 units to win 1...etc. Some use a % of the bankroll and others have a set unit...really whatever you want to make it.

        $30 better on a +200 could say 1 unit to win 2 units (30 to win 60)

I like the idea of a unit as a percentage of bankroll, so as your bankroll grows, so won't your betsize.

Units are used by recreational bettors. See Kelly Criterion for professional handicapper's staking methodologies.
