Is this a good hockey bet, Car/SJ game ?
Does this combination of bets make any sense to you guys ?

    huge dog here, nearly 3-1

If you played, straight, matchbook lines:
    ........................................ ........................................ .......................

    Carolina +1.5 -109 109/100

    Carolina/SJ over 5.5 +115 100/115

    ........................................ ........................................ ........................

There are only six results that lose both bets:

    2-0
    3-0
    4-0
    5-0
    3-1
    4-1

with SJ winning, anything else and you push with nearly no loss, or win both bets.

4-3 SJ for example, gets the money.

    Anybody like it ?

what about 1-0? 2-1? either way......I think you are looking at this a bit wrong....

If you are going to parlay the over and a PL, you should so SJ -1.5 and over 5.5

Although most books won't let you play that because its considered a correlated parlay....if you find one you can make some serious money on those...

This kind of depends on Carolina getting two goals, so it is similar to betting a Carolina team total over 2, which is at over 2 -130 at 5D ( 30 cent lineset).

I prefer it with tight MB lines.

Carolina Hurricanes at San Jose Sharks
      Thu 2/5 15 Carolina Hurricanes +1½ -115 +255 Over 5½ +105 Over 2 -130 Under 2 +100
      10:35PM (EST) 16 San Jose Sharks -1½ -105 -310 Under 5½ -125 Over 3½ +105 Under 3½ -135
      Thu 2/5 15 Carolina Hurricanes +1 +172 Over 5 -150
      10:35PM (EST) 16 San Jose Sharks -1 -203 Under 5 +130
      Thu 2/5 15 Carolina Hurricanes -1½ +800 Over 6 +140
      10:35PM (EST) 16 San Jose Sharks +1½ -1250 Under 6 -160
      Thu 2/5 15 Carolina Hurricanes -1 +654
      10:35PM (EST) 16 San Jose Sharks +1 -1007
      Thu 2/5 15 Carolina (1st 60 min) +½ +150 +306
      10:35PM (EST) 16 San Jose (1st 60 min) -½ -170 -366
      Thu 2/5 15 CAR/SAN Goes to Overtime +350
      10:35PM (EST) 16 CAR/SAN No Overtime -440
      Thu 2/5 15 Carolina (1st 60 min) -½ +395
      10:35PM (EST) 16 San Jose (1st 60 min) +½ -495

1-0 and 2-1 doesn't beat him. however, those 6 combinations of possible score outcomes are very common.. for a game like this, there is a decent chance that the score will be one of the 6 possible score scenarios.

It's not a parlay, it is two straight bets, 1-0 or 2-1 either way wins, the Carolina +1.5, and loses the over....pretty much a wash.

Only those 6 specific scores, with SJ winning, lose the bet... except for possible minor juice.

This game is funny to me all together....I really don't think San Jose should be that big of a Favorite, I was guessing before the lines came out last night that it would be in the -260 range then I look and it is over 300...

Do I think that San Jose will win? Of course...More than 2 goals? Very possible, they are due for one of those break out games where they put up 7 goals...in which case your over would hit......

I went back and re-read it...my mistake. I was thinking that he was going to parlay the two, as you can see by my response. Obviously 1-0 and 2-1 wouldn't beat him then....you are right.

4-0 and 5-0 seem not so likely.

                It comes down to :

Are those 6 results more likely than , stuff like:

                Carolina winning:

                6-0
                5-1
                5-2
                5-3
                5-4
                4-2
                4-3

                SJ winning:

                6-5
                5-4
                4-3

and any super high score, with a one goal margin.
