Denny's put on the free Grand Slam breakfast for anyone who dared to show up yesterday from 6am-2pm.Did anyone here take the bait and have any horror stories about the experience? A massive fart cloud in the place while eating?Super Bowl party barf in the parking lot?Used jelly rolls in the boothes from bag ladies? From all reports, there were lineups a block long.I can imagine every cop in town showed up to look for people on the most wanted list.

I love freebies and discounts etc.but for the price of a Grand Slam of $5.99 you have to be insane to go through that kind of hell to get it.Can you imagine the hell the waitresses went through besides not getting any tips yesterday?Bums pinching their asses, slipping on syrup they threw on the floor blaming the waitress for doing threatening to sue Denny's.etc.Minorities suing because the totally swamped with orders waitress didn't get to them in timely fashion. It had to have been fricken bedlum that Denny's must deeply regret for putting on.

Can you imagine having to clean the cans there yesterday!!!I think the guy on that dirtiest job tv show would have met his match on that one where he would have refused that massive undertaking.

I picture it as being like The Loathing Las Vegas movie about Hunter Thompson where you didn't have to be out of your mind on drugs to see the deamons and monsters seated all over the casino lounges.etc.in that movie

I eat breakfast around 5:30 a.m. Brent, so maybe I should sue for them not opening in time with the freebie for us real morning people.

As somone who has been the the food service industry for quite some time, wild horses could not drag me to a "free food" event. Those servers go through HELL. Even if you get a server that doesn't wish you dead that day, the odds of the food being prepared to spec are nominal at best. EVEN if you get said food the way you ordered it, you have to deal with the scumbags that are also eating in the same vicinity as you. Essentially, the restaurant becomes a glorified soup kitchen. What makes matters even more loathsome, is that the servers will make bubkus for all his/her hard work. NOBODY tips on "free food" promotions. I as a former server would have rather had route canal from that Nazi in "Marathon Man" than work at a Denny's yesterday.

Why would they call in sick? If people aren't paying for their breakfast I would think they would be much more inclined to tip more. They probably made more in tip yesterday than they would all month long. Calling in sick would have been a HUGE mistake.

I drove by Denny's yesterday to check it out. Too many people were in line and I drove by. Next to the Denny's was a outdoor food bank. These are really bad signs of how bad things are.

They probably had the mother of all tipping days.

Think about it..... a couple saved $12.... so they leave couple buck tip so they dont look like cheapskates. Multiply that by 500.

Dagger, you could not be more wrong. The people that eat at said promotions are the CHEAPEST people of the bunch. NEVER have I worked in a restaurant on a given promotional day and made more because of it. I have worked in restaurants in 4 different states with all levels of class, and to a promotion, it all ended the same.

                      Understandable.

Whenever a casino comps my food I always tip $5 or more, even at buffets so I guess I must be a rarity.

I am with you Dagger...if I get something for free like that Denny's thing i would tip at least the amount I would have spent on the food plus some. I guess more people out there are scumbags than I thought.

See, the weird thing about gamblers is they do tend to tip more, I have noticed. I as a gambler look as money as a currency that I can make more of any time I want. Giving extra out to someone does not phase me. Of course this type of thinking has not always left me in good circumstances..lol. I just have a hard time being cheap.

Amb, you and Dagger are definately a rarity. I can recall countless times a person has a problem with their food (no fault of the server). When the problem is rectified, and the meal is discounted or comped, the server gets a tip on what the final check was. Essentially, you may get a $50 meal for $25 and get tipped on the $25. I find that to be reprehensible. It happens way to often

Denny's has over 1600 locations. Can you imagine if they had cameras in every one and took the best of segments of what took place there yesterday and made a series of DVD's or made a tv show like COPS with the film footage? It would be a humongous hit!!!!!

Anyone a good artist here?Make a painting called Free Grand Slam and do it in comical fashion where brawls are breaking out.etc.Funny stuff!

If you gave me a free meal I would take it, but there is no way I would wait in line like that for some free eggs and hashbrowns.

The economy is really bad. That promotion may have saved someone's life yesterday. All of you high flyers did well to stay at home and let the undesirables have a free meal. You should break your arms patting yourselves on the backs. A job well done.

Whats sad is that people have zero concept of opportunity cost.

The damn thing costs $6. People are waiting in line for 2, 3+ hours to get a meal worth $6.

Is your time really that invaluable to you? If I paid you $2 to go sit on a sidewalk for an hour, would you do it? If you would, that's totally fine; but to me, my time is more valuable than that, and I'm broke.

Homeless? Unemployed/Starving? Absolutely your time is worth it. But anyone that could afford the $6 that waited in these lines really doesn't value their time at all.

Casper is spot on in his post, I worked both as a waiter and a chef and anytime there has been a promotion of some sorts, the waitstaff gets screwed. They have to deal with all the cheap a$$holes and then they only get tipped on the discounted bill. Also the cheap fvcks are the most demanding people to wait on.
