Not even close. They were running the offense like there was a minute left. They had three minutes and were knifing through the defense all via the pass and Vick's legs. Even if they kept throwing exclusively, run some clock guy. This will come down to a FG attempt by SD unless they can pressure Rivers into a TO.

This week, he stays aggressive when he should be milking some clock. It's not really that difficult to understand. I'm a bit confused how he can't get it right. Guess he didn't have to play enough close games at Oregon.

Williams had a terrible game though. Poor technique. Worst part of the D for me today was letting Gates run free on just about every 3rd down when everyone knows where Rivers would like to go with the ball.

Defense was always going to be a problem for this team. They don't have the correct personnel yet to entirely fill out this 3-4 scheme they switched to ... which to me is a mistake from the top to the bottom. If you're changing schemes like that, you need to have ZERO holes. Iin this scheme, their best defensive player (Cole) is out of position as a LB. They still take advantage of his speed rush skills, but he's not nearly the force he can be as a down lineman. I don't think all the LBs are built for the 3-4 and the secondary is all new and obviously not all on the same page as you can see some very basic mistakes being made in coverage that have resulted in big plays for the opposition.

Maybe they grow through the season, but you can see that something needs to adjust, either slowing the tempo on offense some to give them a bigger breather or making better defensive calls.

Early in a season with an inexperienced coach at this level, but so far Kelly doesn't seem to understand some basic concepts.

BTW who the fukk makes this schedule? Start on a Monday Nighter, then Sunday and then Thursday? Pretty shitty turnarounds. Chip will experience his first booing off the field if they lose to Big Red on Thursday.

Will say one thing the defense has done better is force turnovers. They would have been buried in the 1st half if they didn't cause two fumbles in the red zone. Also scary to think they could have given up 40 pretty easy. Then again, today's NFL seems to be resembling college football more & more in all aspects now where these 30-27 type of games might be more the norm.
